first off, all diets and fitness regimes are in my view useless -if you experience them as something to be endured---because your resolve will eventually weaken and you will either start to yo-yo, or you will give up entirely.

the food angle has been covered marvelously by paul mckenna with his ideas about conscious eating and only eating when genuinely hungry...read his book... I Can Make You Thin.

diets are torture and never work in the long run.

as to exercise, i think you basically have three styles

1. the GYM [/POOL].... [including aerobics and other non competitive activities]

2. SPORT....

3. OUTDOOR PURSUITS.... [including hiking & walking etc]

the gym is ideal for those [urbanites] who hate sport and have no interest in nature wildlife and landscape. in fact if you want to be lean and mean--its pretty much..[with swimming /aerobics etc]..Your only option.

you will have to accept that whereas sports lovers socialise and interact as part of their exercise and have fun keeping fit, and nature lovers love being in nature..and getting exercise whilst walking or hiking outdoors...you are on the indoor/urbanites treadmill-swimming-aerobics option and have to accept that it's a Permanent lifestyle choice, if you want to remain fit and slim---the only other choice you have if this seems like forced labour to you, is to A: choose a sport to keep fit [no matter how badly you play it in the begining] or B: to get out into the fresh air regularly and just walk hike climb etc to keep fit

.

if you are out of shape but know you want to end up doing the sport or outdoor pursuits option, my advice would be to pay for 3 months gym/pool etc membership to get into reasonable shape, then switch to the more fun ways of getting exercise.

personally i prefer a bit of sport and a bit of walking & hiking, with occasional swims, but i would never have an exercise machine at home...[except a heated pool-i wish!]...home is for relaxing in, and i would only consider a three months/cash gym membership [with sauna!] in the cold&wet winter months of nov dec jan.

basically i think it's pointless Getting fit and lean with all the effort and expense involved, if you dont then have something to KEEP you Permanently fit and slim, because its Only that lifestyle that is going to maintain your physique.

if you are not prepared to change your lifestyle, you might as well accept the body you have now and save yourself the effort, because if you dont change your lifestyle--your body is only going to revert to the shape you are now[or worse!]...after you backslide from being fed up with all the tedium and labour of the exercise.

does any of this make sense to you?

  1. I tend to agree with you.

The only successful way for me to keep my weight static has been reduction of calorie intake.

Any increase in exercise has meant more hunger and sometimes I have been lacking Iron or other nutrients and had to eat more to stay healthy.

Eating only when you are hungry is fine providing your underlying health is good, and your hunger reflex is functioning properly.  Otherwise it leads to disorders, illness and death

  2.      You should never give-up on the idea of remaining healthy or the pursuance of being fit...

I like the adage of only eating what you can use during the course of the day.  But if you only eat when you are hungry it may lead to binging. Following the daily recommended allowances is not always easy but the guidelines are sound. And diets are for those who have special dietary constraints that need to be outlined for the duration of time necessary.

As for the ideas you have for physical fitness.  There are other ways for one to stay in shape or get there without the use of equipment or the participation in any event.

The first of which is, making your everyday movements exercises. By deliberately focusing on how you move throughout the course of the day you often times do not need to exercise. You essentially make your every move an exercise.

The second of which is, general exercise and stretching daily provides the body with the necessary increases in heart rate to promote a healthy disposition.

The list goes on as your culture changes or beliefs change. There is meditation, Tai Chi, yoga, etc...

Although the home is a place of peace and rest, for a growing number of individuals it is also becoming the office as well.  And even in big business they promote and encourage good health by providing entire workout facilities within or on the same site.

But  I do agree with you on point.  If you are not propared to change your lifestyle, you must then accept the consequences of that action. The way you look is that consequence. And breaking a regiment and diet often results in the reacquiring of the weight you have lost and usually an additional 5 to 10 percent more mass sue to the attrify of any lean muscle mass acquired.

But you should never stop trying to reach any level health that increases your quality of life.

  3. Yes, it does make sense to me; somewhat.

Diet and excercise is clearly of great importance, regarding your healthy state, it is generally important from the age of 18 and above; because that is when your body get's masculain and tougher (in most cases).

Of course, there is always a way over the top figure thrown on these things.

You don't need permanent excercise, fact! and you don't need to workout everyday.

Sure a little jogging can't do you no harm, aslong as you go out with friends, etc and walk; then you're fulfilling your excercise needs.

I hope I was of aid with my answer. Good luck
