Question:

What do you think of news anchors moving to another station?

News people, especially the younger ones, are always moving around. A few years in Podunk, Nowhere then a move up to some actual city and on and on.

But occasionally someone will move in their market. They'll stay in the same town on a different station where maybe they get a better position or more money.

Have you ever seen this? What do you think of it?

  1. The live news business is really competitive and it's not uncommon for anchors to be forced aside.  My favorite anchor went from a large established news station to a smaller upstart in an earlier time slot.  I feel as if he was in line to become the top anchor on the news team and was forced out by someone that was just as experienced but not as connecting with the viewers.  I now watch my favorite anchor on the new station in the earlier time slot and watch the later news on his former station because the coverage is a little better.

  2. Sometimes it comes down to personalities, or money. A news director might want to make a change just for the sake of making a change, and the anchor winds up being bounced and moving cross-town.

Or, a contract expires, and more money is offered by another station. It's kind of like pro athletes who become free agents -- they explore the market.

In other words, you'd do the same thing in that situation.

  3. We get moving news.

  4. I've smurfed them change cities. Nothing wrong with making a change that could improve your life.
