Do we need to put more funding into our athletes? If so, Why?

Should we have done better considering the funding that had been spent? (See link - http://uk.biz.yahoo.com/22082008/389/gold-medal-really-worth.html)

Should we put a price on the success of our athletes?

Can we do better when it is our turn to host the games?

I think we did well.

Personally, I do not believe a price should be put on the medals and clearly some sports need better funding. What do you think?

  1. Well done to us

  2. I think people need to remember it's not just a case of 'how many golds did we get for our money'.

Because of the nations success and medal haulage, British peoples morale has been high for two weeks, thousands of people have been inspired into becoming active. And hundreds of of kids will see Chris Hoy, Rebecca Adlington and want to become our olympic representatives for 2012 & 2016.

The money hasn't just bought medals, its bought inspiration, a 'feelgood factor' and a positive message for kids about exercise. I think it's worth it!

  3. I find the whole thing stinks,it's all about money. A few years ago all participants were amateur now all are full time professional some earning huge amounts of money from their sport. I believe the money could be better spent on helping pensioners heat their homes and feed themselves  and/or research into curing cancers, etc.

  4. I am so happy we have done well, the 2012 target was to finish 4th in the table, but maybe we can finish 3rd then, ahead of Russia!

Chris Hoy and Becky Adlington have done very well, they are both multiple Gold medallists - hopefully we can get around 60 medals at 2012, shame we couldn't finish 3rd! =D

  5. Successsful only if all sore losers are dead!

  6. Another well thought-out response from Sino-Pak. Pathetic. I think the UK did very well. I think anything can be resolved if you throw enough money at it.

  7. We're doing well. But the actual sports are mostly quite boring. I'm more concerned about the £9.3billion going towards our 2012 Olympic budget when we have problems like under-funded education and health facilities, and much-needed improvements for our transport systems. Oh and the economy.

  8. n the immortal words of Bart Simpson Aussies eat our shorts.!

  9. I'm really happy that we've done so well! It usually just annoys me when we don't win anything, but the fact that we are 3rd in the table is fantastic! Even makes me want to be a rower haha. In my opinion, more effort should be put in to getting the best athletes possible in our country, as it is an important event. On the other hand, we can't just waste money, when its needed for other resources.

Sorry my answer is so vague!!!

  10. I think the UK & NI has been doing great.
