What do you think of people who call others "losers" as a form of abuse? What does it say about those who use it? Personally I find it offensive and ignorant but what do you think?

  1. I think if you find it offensive and abusive you are far too sensitive - the PC brigade have got you!!!

  2. I think they're the real losers...and are merely projecting.

  3. It's just another term to throw at a person...I can certainly think of worse.

And after all...with some people it's true.

  4. I wonder why they didn't use a thoughtful and non-offensive form of abuse, before I remember there arn't any... Abuse is rarely designed to delight and impress the abused.

As a form of abuse it's offensive and ignorant - isn't this a truism?

  5. Real stupid, infantile and brainwahed.  On some cartoons, fathers are called losers.  I've seen women here and other websites often refer to men as losers.  Perhaps I am wrong, but it seems to refer to men more than women?

  6. The ones who go around calling people Losers, it's because they are jealous, of the person that are saying it to, they think by calling some one a losers, they are making them self's look big.

  7. Immature, definitely, but I'd hardly call it abusive unless you called someone that on a regular basis for no reason but to make them feel like c**p.

  8. I think they must be 12 and American, anyone else who uses it must be an imbecile

  9. It is not abusive but inspirational to put you on course, not to lose any opportunity open to you, but be winner.

  10. I hate it myself.  It is very much an Americanism that has gotten imported into the UK.  Part of the success ethic that anyone that has failed in any way or faced misfortune or prejudice is to be thrown onto the scrapheap and ridiculed.  Coming from a so-called Christian country, it is a highly unchristian word.  It is one reason so many Europeans lose respect for Americans.

One reason I love Australia is that they have a strong ethic of self-reliance.  There is no shame in failing or being a loser, because that's what happens to all of us.  Aussies never expect life to be easy, nor to have all the talents needed to handle everything successfully.  But not to "give it a go" is unforgiveable. Make a hash of it - give your mates a good laugh, and they'll think "good on ya, mate" and help out. They have no losers in Oz, just tryers.

  11. i think they are insecure losers! lol (joke)

  12. If I call myself a "loser" does that constitute self abuse? <snicker>

I think people who resort to calling someone a "loser" are desperately lacking creativity in the name-calling department.

  13. The use of insults rarely makes the speaker sound more impressive.  It is an expression that might be used as an act of defiance by a person who has themselves been insulted or abused in some other way. Would you still think the same way in those circumstances or do you feel that meaning can be contextual?

  14. I think that it is not abusive if used in the correct and intended manner.

los·er     /ˈluzər/ Pronunciation Key - Show Spelled Pronunciation[loo-zer] Pronunciation Key - Show IPA Pronunciation

–noun 1. a person, team, nation, etc., that loses: The visiting team was the loser in the series.

    2. Informal. a. a person who has been convicted of a misdemeanor or, esp., a felony: a two-time loser.

    b. a person who has failed at a particular activity: a loser at marriage.

    c. someone or something that is marked by consistently or thoroughly bad quality, performance, etc.: Don't bother to see that film, it's a real loser.

    3. Slang. a misfit, esp. someone who has never or seldom been successful at a job, personal relationship, etc.

Some people are just real losers and someone should be nice a tell them.  You can not change what you do not acknowledge.

So it depends on how it was used and who it was used on.  I think people get offended because they fear they are losers.  If someone who doesn't know me calls me a loser I just laugh... After all its Mind over Matter; I don't mind and you don't matter.

  15. God are we all a bunch of fourth graders? When will everyone just grow up? Name calling is a form of putting others down just to build yourself up. But what kind of structure will you have once you've completed your structure? I don't see a very sturdy building. I see one that will fall fairly easily.

  16. I find it laughable unless they are under the age of 14.  Teens will laugh at a kid who calls another one "loser" in attempt to belittle him.  Many people see it as a joke because it is so immature, like calling someone stupid or a butthead.
