I never bought one like this and the local dealer has several with plastic vs. metal as a washbin. Is this ok? any reason I should't go with them?

  1. The million dollar question is why do manufactures make plastic tubs.  The answer is cost.  It is cheaper to make a plastic tub than a metal one.  You will wear out the machine way before you ever had a problem with a plastic tub.  Plus plastic will never rust.

  2. I think that sounds scary.  While plastic maybe a good material...it's gonna break down over time.  Think about it; the rivets alone on your jeans spinning around and around a million times, all that shaking that the tub goes through...I haven't seen one in person, so I'm not actually basing this on anything other than how it sounds.  If I had my choice and the costs were very similar, I'd definitely go with the ones that have been around for years and years...good old steel!!!

  3. As far as cost to the consumer goes, the plastic is more efficient. As for quality goes, the metal washbins are the way to go. I, for one, wash my tennis shoes. They would break a plastic tub, but the metal ones could stand up to nearly anything. I'm very happy with my new Maytag, and think you should go with the metal.

  4. I don't own one, but with half of my car and truck made of plastic, I wouldn't think you have anything to fret over.

  5. I have had a plastic tub machine for more than 5 years. Works great! No Problems at all.  Do I wish I had a stainless steel?, Of course, but for what I paid for this machine, I'm very happy. Good Luck!

  6. I have never experienced a plastic basket, but personally I like the enamelled metal kind.  I would question the durability of a plastic basket...does it crack easily?  I don't like uncoated stainless steel either, because I believe it would discolour the clothes...especially the whites.

  7. plastic uses less energy to spin since its lighter and if you think about the fact that its not like the thing is going to take any extreme forces its fine- My washer has plastic and I see no difference.

  8. The manufactures have been using plastic tubs in washers for over 20 years they are better since they do not rust! Appliance service 25 years
