I have a female cousin who has been hikikomori for more than 10 years. I am planning to take her out to a travel to Mexico with me.

Do you think it's good idea?

Do you have any idea to take her out of her house, her parents seem to gave up on her...

  1. That's going to me sort of difficult, but I think that you could pull it off. Just remember: she's not social at all. So she'll push you away or do different things in public and soforth.

Just drag her out. Be patient, though. Hikikomori take a while to get used to reality.

  2. Both of you live in Japan? If so, Mexico is very far away from Japan.

She has not go out for more than 10 years. Mexico is too far way for her maybe, unless she is interested in Mexico....

  3. It's a good idea. But, 10 years are too long.

Hikikomori is one of the mental disease and difficult to be cured perfectly.

It is necessary for her to change the monotonous environment.

Maybe not so easy things but you have to persuade her as possible as you can.

    I believe your success.

  4. i think hikikomori is 1000% the product of japaneseness and japanese society, contrary to all the japanese people say. they tend to internalize all the fault to themselves or to the individual. that's a no-no. A no, no, no. A no brainer response.

the truth lies on the opposite of what the crowd say. I tell you again, it's not the individuals' fault. so treat her not as failure or blame her not for it's not her fault.

now, your plan is excellent. take her out from the environment that made her depressed. i personally know how latin society are relaxing, 180 degrees opposite of what is japan where pressure and blame and shame is as prevalent as air.

take her out to mexico. it works. dont listen to all the opinitions of other typical japanese or gaijins' who became brain washed by japanese society. those gaijins never grew up in japan from early on so they don't have no first hand experience growing up in a high pressure, mind boggling society.
