  1. that's my birthday, too.  gee, thanks a lot.

  2. in wales it starts on april 2.  as an ex landlord it may lose some customers in the begining, but where will thy go  "stay at home with the wife " !!!  is the answer . but public houses where started just for that to have a drink with you friends in public. and it may i say MAY bring into the pub  customers who for one thing or another can"t sit in a smoke filled room.

  3. I am a smoker and I think it is a good idea, i hate being in a really smokey place if i have to go outside i will!!!

  4. We're getting that in baltimore.  its kind of stupid because smokers go to bars to drink and smoke, and now they can't smoke.  Also the World health Organization never found any negative effects to second hand smoke.

  5. I love it.  As a non smoker, I hate smelling smoke, or having my clothes smell bad.  Also, i won't get second hand smoke.  Even with good ventilation, you can still get second hand smoke, even if you don't smell it.

  6. Excellent and a long time coming!

I have nothing against smoking, or smokers. Its the inconsiderate smokers who have no regard for people around them who are eating or inhaling the smoke.

I`ll be much happier when the ban comes into force and I can enjoy a meal out without feeling hoarse afterwards.

  7. not fair at all

    we are becoming outcasts

i agree with it when eating out

but what about the smokers rights

  8. There should be a pub in each town for smokers which kicks out non-smokers every 12 minutes, so that they can get some fresh air!

  9. The pubs will all have out door smoking areas wont they?

What concerns me about this is what happend to  Rachel in Friends  where all the decions where made with out here whilst the others were smoking outside.

Will I miss out on crucial bits of conversation sat with the non-smokers indoors.  And what about us non-smokers who want to sit outside in the sun?

    Hrumph!

  10. great idea

people who do not smoke when they go to a pub they have to smoke and breath in second hand smoke

    no

so I think this is a great idea

    good luck

    smile

  11. coming from ireland, its worth it! you dont smell bad after a night out, you wont smoke as much, and you will meet new poeple having to go elsewhere to have a cigarette!!!

  12. Good idea, have you seen that new advert??

  13. I am a smoker, bad habit I know, Honestly I don't mind all that much, even I don't like being in a room full of smoke. What bugs me is the one that they are trying to pass about the smoking in public, including your car. I like to think of myself as a considerate smoker, I understand not doing it around schools and other places, but in my car. I don't need to smoke, that's not the point. This should be a form of discrimination, and that doesn't matter I guess.

  14. bah humbug.  great for the staff who work in pubs and clubs and for non smokers.  but i pay my taxes, i enjoy smoking and socialising, why can't i choose to carry on as it is now?  friends have never complained to me about smoky drinking places.

another crazy idea from a government who introduced smoking to us in the first place - remember sir walter raleigh?    what next?

i bet they'll still smoke in the houses of parliament and the other royal palaces.  do as i say and not as i do..........

why don't they ban hydrogenated fats in processed foods instead, that would be a life saver.   nothing's said about that.

  15. I don't smoke, never have and never will but I think that's kind of bizarre. They are doing a lot of that, city by city here in the States. When I read they were doing it in Ireland I figured it would ruin business because that's what people do in bars, drink and smoke but I guess they really must go to see their friends since they are still going. When I visited Ireland and Scotland, our tour group went to pubs but the smoke was enough to make you sick if you are not used to it and that made me wonder if the new laws were so tourists would spend more time and money there. The only ones in our tour bus who smoked were the driver and the guide so they spent a lot of time away from us. We really wanted to spend more time listening to the live music in the pubs but you can only take so much of it. I've always been asthmatic so can't hack much. I wonder how upsetting it is to the people who live there. Well, good luck and God bless

  16. Im a non smoker and I think its a bad idea.  When the smoking ban comes into force it will drive the smokers out of the pubs and the publicans will have less customers to make their profits from,  thus driving up the price of a pint.

There is PERHAPS a case to have a separate area in pubs which would allow non smokers, children and diners in it then that would keep everybody happy.

  17. I can't wait! No  more smelling like an ashtray when I come home from the pub!!!

  18. I'm a non - smoker.  I'm against it.  They should be TRUE non-smoking rooms, with doors that separate the areas.  It shouldn't be illegal, if smoking isn't.

  19. Hi, Not only is it banned in every pub, but all work places and enclosed public places.

I think the ban is long, long overdue.

Cigaretts contain over 300 different chemicals, some of which are dangerous, cancer causing chemicals. I would be arrested if i went into a public place and sprayed those chemicals around. It would pose a danger to society.

Last year or so, there was a huge out cry because it was found that some pink food colouring might slightly increase a persons risk of cancer... food was returned to shops, promptly removed from shelves etc... the risk was minimal and yet the colourant was banned...

Can you think of any other product other than cigaretts that is sold with a warning on it to say that it seriously damages your health and the health of those around you? That it causes cancer, heart disease??? etc ... no other product would be legal yet cigaretts still are... Why??? TAX!!!!

The government has made a wonderful step in banning smoking from public places, but what about the health of those who smoke and the children who are exposed to it in private homes???

Hopefully this is only the first step and one day I hope for the sake of all the smokers out there, it is banned altogether.

    Yeahhh!!!!

  20. I think its another symbol of what will become the norm in this country England everyone being told how to live their lives by the **** goverment and the majority of fools saying YEAH ITS GREAT what next? no driving cars because of the green house gasses no spicy food because it could give you ulcers, no this no that ?where will it end

  21. itz already here in scotland and it is great

  22. I'm all for it. Pitty we have to wait until 1st July!!

  23. I gave up smoking nearly 3 years ago and now I have got my sense of smell back I couldn't believe I used to smell like that.I think it is a good thing to stop smoking in enclosed spaces and hey! all those that are still smoking stop using the pavement as an "ash tray".

  24. Iam trying to get a job with the smoke police £15k p.a

  25. Can't wait - it'll be so nice not to leave a pub stinking of f**s

  26. no offense to smokers, but I like it alright. I like to go out and have a good time and drink with my friends without having to breathe all of that smoke in and like the other guy said get all smelly.

  27. It's already in place here in Scotland and it's fantastic. I don't have to be passive smoker and It's good when your clothes don't stink of smoke!

  28. about time...why should i inhale some one elses secondhand carcinogenic smoke.  i want to enjoy a drink, if you want to smoke go outside for a whole minute..

and b4 someone says that pubs been around 100 of years and smoking part of pub culture, so was prostitution in pubs, and you could also bring your farm animals in, things moved on...

    give up.

  29. Its fair ball now , nobody smokes and everyone breathes evenly . No smelly clothes and burn ones either , your hair doesn't smell . Its fantastic about this  new  rule  .

  30. excellent idea should have happened a long time ago

  31. I agree with it. Why do us non-smokers have to tolerate and breathe in second hand smoke? Those who want to smoke are welcome to go outside.
