Question:

What do you think of the 'Zulu Dawn' for AFL?

Six clubs sent recruiting staff along to guage local talent at the AIS Academy team's South African tour last week. Now they are all in a flap about recruiting Zulu teenagers for the AFL.

Natural skills or not - hardly any of these blokes have ever touched a football of any description in the past. I think everyone is being overcome by that warm & fuzzy feeling one gets when they think they are doing something extra-ordinary for the under-privilidged!

If we want to look further ashore - other than Ireland - why not try to convince some of those Tongan, Samoans or Maoris into playing Aussie Rules. They have grown up on an oval ball, playing the rugby codes, since kids.

Some of them are built like brick shytehouses & can run 100 metres in even time. Just a though!

  1. I don't know much about it.

Looks like someone claimed the question was racist - & have had their comments deleted. I would have liked to have seen what was written by this poster. I can't see anything racist anywhere in this thread.

I do agree that some of the sportsmen from the Pacific Nations would become decent A/R footballers with a bit of education (Port's Rodan, for instance). They take to the two rugby codes quite well.

  2. Sharon t, how the h**l is it a racist question, learn to spell the word first.

i just think it is a waste of time, why bother, it's rubbish, let Aussies who grow up with the dream to play in the AFL play the game. i wouldn't recruit from any where, it is our game, lets keep it that way. (Sharon t, is that racist too, y'day every person in here gave their opinion about why we love footy, i guess they were all racist too) we can not open our mouths in this country without being accused of bloody racism.
