  1. they better win this year because they just let go their future at first base.

  2. I think everyone needs to shut up about it. There should be an offical "Talk about the Teixeira trade" question.

  3. I'm a Braves fan, and I must withhold my judgement on this deal. I love Tex, but I know we couldn't re-sign him, so we needed to trade him somewhere. I am just anxious about Kotchman, who many people say is not really a power hitter and is more of a #2 hitter. That leaves us without a cleanup hitter. I know he's supposed to have a good glove, but I have never seen a better glove at first than Tex. Add all his offensive numbers and the fact that he's a switch hitter to the mix, and you have one of the best players in all of baseball. We traded him for someone who has potential, but not the past numbers. We also got a pitcher. Who knows how he will wind up being? I hope he's good. We also cut Tex's salary out of the picture, which means we can go after Sheets or CC in the offseason. If we can get someone like that, then this trade will be worthwhile. If those plans fold though, I think we got ripped off.

  4. They got him for next to nothing. An unproven 1st basemen and some prospects for a Superstar.

  5. The Angels were already the best team in the majors, and now they have just gotten even better. Outside of Vlad, the Angels didn't have a lot of power, but now they have someone who can be a good cleanup hitter. Kotchman was a very good player, but Tex can match him with the glove. I think it's a good trade for both sides, but the Angels got a little better deal.

  6. Great trade of LAA.  Not only do they get one of the best players in the game, but they will also resign him at the end of the year.

  7. I don't think the Braves made a smart move for Kotchman, but it helped the Angels out a lot.

  8. WHAT!!?!?!?

    *panics*

    *looks around*

    TEXERIA????

    TRADED??!?!??!?!!?

  9. It broke my heart to see Casey Kotchman go.We are going to miss him greatly.Braves have one more fan.

  10. Big Deal.

I would rather have a guaranteed cheap and also productive good player such as Kotchman for next 2 or 3 seasons, than an overpriced Mark Teixteira for 2 months.

And there is absolutely no way that the Angels are going to be able to afford Lackey and Rodriguez and Guerrero and Teixteira in 2009.

Talk about handing free agents leverage, Wow!

Plus, if any of those four gets injured in August or September, the Angels have thrown away a pretty decent 1st. baseman.

That is a very steep rental for a two month player.

  11. angel fan here,

I love Kotchman he's a heck of a player so its tough for me to see him go.. but he'll do fine! I think the Braves are going to be happy with him :) hehe looks like i'll be checkin on the braves more ^^

As for Tex, i think its a great add AS OF RIGHT NOW.. i think the angels management really wants to go that extra mile and get to the WS this year.. which sounds awesome because he's such a good player but i don't even know if the angels are going to get that far (i know they're good but i dont' want to get cocky now). It'll definitely be an interesting off season.. i know tex wants a lot of money (loots of money) and i don't know if the angels are going to re sign him.. seriously though a 2 month rental for kotchman and no WS.. so not worth it unless they resign Tex.. and we have other FAs too ya know..

    ahhhhkkk!!!

    who knows?

  12. i don't get it.the braves have a stellar season with texeria and then they just give him away.i know money is one of the situations in this shocking trade.

  13. I think it's great. Beneficial for both teams, but selfishly, as an Angel fan, it's exactly what they needed to do. Kotchman is a good player and will be an above average major league first baseman for years, but he's not the bat they need to win it all this year. Tex is. Year after year the Angels just roll past the trade deadline, needing more offense and doing nothing and it seems like they finally learned that winning the West isn't good enough. At some point you have to put your chips in and try to go all the way.

To people who think Kotchman is going to be some sort of revelation, perrenial allstar guy, keep in mind that he's been around for a while (he's had somewhere in the realm of 1100 at bats over a few years). He's a really nice player, but he'll go into the books as a .295, 20, 90 guy. I like him, and I hate to see him go, but you've got to give something to get something and they need a player of Tex's callibur to get over the hump. Prove that they're serious about going all the way. Who knows how long they can keep their core players around.

    *************

Hi forgotten glory. I see Kotchman as a good 5 hole hitter (I could see the two also, but I like him at 5). He's got some pop, but I wouldn't want him to be my biggest bat. He'll hit some home runs and he's a good contact hitter, can be very productive. He's one of the hardest in the game to strike out which is nice. He's also basically Teixiera's equal defensively. He's no Tex, but at least you got something and he's a nice piece to pick up.

  14. Well the braves werent going to be able to re-sign him past this year so i think that what they got in return will help them in following seasons.  It free'd up alot of money so hopefully the Braves will use that to be aggresive this offseason.

The Angels are the best team without Tex in the MLB...now with him Id have to say theyre the hands down favs to win it all this year as of now.  Still alot of time left so barring injuries they should go deep into the playoffs.
