  1. A Brief Explanation of the Sword in Luke 22:36

  2. Hmmmmm --- I was almost going to tell you to go to a different category but this verse make sense so I wont flame you......

  3. I've used the same verse while talking to various anti-every things too. The typical anti every things question goes something like this....

"Well would Jesus carry a gun?"

That verse usually shuts them up.

I also like to quote them the ole judge ye not lest ye be judged ...

  4. definetly the wrong category, that and I don't understand a word of it. Is that how the whole bible was written? Sounds interesting, but I would need it translated.

  5. There's no loss in translating Old English to modern - Jesus is giving a specific charge to his disciples to obtain a weapon for protection. It's not the only verse he brings it up.

At no point do many Christian scholars believe that it should be an excuse for mayhem - neither do they expect believers to submit to being killed by others. It would be contradictory. Turning your other cheek isn't rote acceptance of any life threatening actions, vice versa don't go around looking for a fight. You will get plenty enough walking on his road.

Swords have other uses besides self - protection, basically being a large knife at best in that culture. They have plenty of uses building shelters, clearing camp sites, cutting wood, etc., and give just as creditable service as a machete. Telling his disciples to spread the Gospel in an worse than third world environment would naturally involve including all the required equipment. It would be derelict to have omitted it.

  6. It's pretty clear to me.

Jesus was telling his apostles that they might well need arms to defend themselves.

A sword was not a hunting weapon, it was a weapon of self defense.

The Christian faith has been under varying degrees of physical threat for over 2000 years, and his advice is just as valid and clear today.

Keep a weapon with which you can defend your life, just in case.

  7. have no idea what it means

  8. It means you should be packing!  He also said that "a man that does not provide for his family is worse than an infidel"  I take that as though he's talking about providing for his families safety and protection.

  9. your question, has nothing to do with hunting

  10. I think that this is posted in the wrong category.

  11. Scary , but I think a YA moderator was thinking a Luke 22:36 is a rifle caliber.

  12. *To everyone*

It means that you need self-protection. ^a sword^ in that time......

Which translates to a 9mm or 12 gauge nowadays.
