What do you think of the Blue Angels?

I just went to my first air show (sad I know lol) and saw the Blue Angels. I thought they were pretty awesome. That must take a lot of time to get it right with all the training they have to go through to get that far. Have you ever seen them in person? How have your experiences been?

  1. I have seen them, and the Air Force Thunderbirds at various air shows around here.

One of the most spectacular sites for this kind of performance is over the San Francisco Bay, with the Golden Gate Bridge, Angel Island, and the Oakland Hills as a back drop.  Beautiful!

Sadly, for this year's "Fleet Week" celebrations, they did not perform in this venue.  The good thing is, that, besides their, we get other air shows at Moffat Field (a former NAS), Salinas Airport, and, Half Moon Bay Fly-In the coast.  In addition, we have other, smaller events at some of the local, General Aviation fields within fifty miles of my  house.

  2. You're right, they are awesome.  I was fortunate enough to see them once while I was in the Navy aboard a carrier.  They were flying A-4's at that time, and their performance was something to see.  Click on the below link to see them "back in the day".

  3. I saw them a few years ago and just kept thinking "WOW!"

  4. I'm really torn when I watch them.  It's very exciting, and I admire their flying skills.

However, I can't help but put myself in the place of someone who might be on the receiving end of their armaments.

Plus, when they visit my city they fly directly over my house on their turnarounds, so close that I can see the pilots.  It's a terrifying experience.
