"Frumkin, director of CDC's National Center for Environmental Health, outlined the range of "major anticipated health" issues as a result of climate change.

Among them, the prospects of more heat waves that are of special danger to the elderly and the poor; more incidents of extreme weather posing a danger of drought in some areas and flooding in others; increase of food-borne and waterborne infectious diseases; more air pollution because of higher temperatures; and the migration into new areas of vector-borne and zoonotic diseases such as Lyme disease, West Nile virus, malaria or dengue fever as seasonal patterns change.

"Over the next few decades in the United States, climate change is likely to have a significant impact on health," Frumkin told the House Select Committee on Energy Independence and Global Warming."

Note that the CDC works for the Bush Administration. What do you make of their report?

  1. Their report is based on the anticipation of climate change.  If the world warms up, yes tropical diseases will find new homes.  I don't think anyone would dispute that.

Whether or not the climate actually WILL change is a different matter.

  2. What a shock, a government agency seeking to grow and is fishing for more funding.  It is more of the same garbage that we have come to expect from alarmists.  You notice that they don't say that cold related deaths and discomfort will reduce.  Cold related health issues are a far larger problem.  Global warming from greehouse gases should be much greater in the coldest temperatures and will not warm the summer day time temperatures nearly as much.  In other words, if it happems, it should  moderate the temperature reducing cold related health problems and be minimal for heat related problems.  Mosquitos are not a tropical problem.  If you have ever been to the far north that would be very obvious.  One of the largest malarial outbreaks was in Siberia.

  3. Now we're extrapolating the extrapolations.

  4. people have weak immune systems, way before global warming....

  5. Yea, this is serious!  Ted Turner said global warming is going to cause us all to be cannibals!  Imagine because I get 15 miles to a gallon, we'll have Bob over for dinner!

Only man could be the cause, as the climate has never before been this weired!

Other predictions by the CDC - Aids would infect 25 million US citizens, SARS would be a pandemic, Avian Flu would kill 250 million worldwide.

We're doomed!  If only the republicans would give the CDC a bigger budget to save humanity!  Woe to us!!!

  6. Yes so what?...and solar flares are correlated to flu outbreaks. Get real...

There is a unproved biological theory for this, but you wouldn't understand it.

Edit: just to flip the coin, one mechanical achievement has contribute to the benefit/health of mankind more then anything else.... It's called (plumbing).

  7. well at last the u.s. gov. is waking up to this. our environment agency already has various contingency plans in place, as disease rips north across continents. our latest is bluetongue in cattle; the midges that carry it used not to be able to get up here, and not overwinter if they did. the e.a. are expecting it to be endemic within the decade. i'm expecting a return of malaria, we used to have it in the fens in (you guessed it) the medieval warm period. it was called 'ague'.

and we had our first sighting of a tiger stripe mosquito year before last - only 50 miles from me shudder.

oh, and lymes disease, that is spreading like mad here. my mate had a bite on her leg, looked like nothing, till it hit the nerves in her groin, then agony! antibiotics see it off if you are quick otherwise it does permanent nerve damage. Watch Out for The Deer Ticks People!!!!

    heat/cold deaths? our gov. have researched that as well;

With winters becoming milder, there are likely to be up to 20,000 fewer cold-related deaths. However, there is a danger that bacteria would no longer die-off seasonally during the prolonged cold spell meaning that diseases may spread more widely.

More heat waves will increase the number of hot-weather related deaths by up to 2,800. Exposure to higher levels of UV light could cause an extra 5,000 deaths a year from skin cancer and may cause an increase of up to 2,000 cases of cataracts. Warmer summers may cause up to 10,000 extra cases of food poisoning each year.

it must be time for your pills 'doctor'......

  8. It's a lot more than CDC.  The World Health Organization has issued a report on this.  Think Bush is paying them off too? Huffington Post just did a major piece.  For a Partisan issue there sure are a lot of Conservatives in on the conspiracy.  Pulmonologists and Immunologists have been buzzing about this for two years now.  It's a bad time to be an asthmatic.  A lot of the impact is attributed to the earlier flowering of pollen bearing trees, which is being observed around the world.  I don't want to end up in another dispute with someone who says the debate isn't over about the validity of the Periodic Table or anything, but these measurements are taken very scientifically all around the Globe, and have been for years.

  9. Well it would probably make a good liner for my cat box, other than that, you would think that a good environmentalist such as your self, would be outraged at the wasted paper, ink, and energy that went in to such tripe.

  10. Your question makes sense, since you have no evidence to prove global warming to keep attacking the other side.  The real truth regardless of the attachments you proclaim, is that the rates of skin cancer are declining and have been declining since 1993.  Guess Gore better get in touch with those scientists and bring them aboard.  I am sure those numbers can be 'adjusted' too.

Doesn't say much about that Ozone depletion and global warming except further proof that it is a lie.  I thought that CO2 MAGNIFIED sunlight and UV rays????  hmmmmm

  11. Their are more health risks with cooling than warming.  More people die of cold than heat.
