Question:

What do you think of the Dominican Republic for a wedding?

We were first going with Turks and Caicos, but the flights are too long from the UK. (We have half UK and US guests.)

Then the Bahamas, but I can't find a resort I like...

I want an all inclusive resort, with at least 7+ resturants!

I have heard bad things about DR and that you basically cannot leave the resort (sorry, just what I have heard)

Please any advice whether to have the wedding in the DR ?! We have alot of people coming all the way from the UK who are going to stay for a week)

It just seems all the hotels in the DR are really nice, have a ton of resturants and all are all inclusive.

  1. My friends daughter was planning on getting married in the DR. To start with the official language is Spanish. All the documents have to be translated back & forth. Alot of trouble (and money).

They decided to get married in Canada and have a ceremony when they got to Punta Cana.

The ceremony was pretty hokey. They actually had the poolboy do the faux ceremony. The only nice thing was the photos.

Try Jamaica. The language is English, and the people are alot nicer.

  2. I hope you aren't going by the hotel picture because some are misleading. All the hotels aren't nice. I know from experience. I would suggest you check tripadvisor.com. They have reviews and pics from people who have stayed there. Personally DR is not somewhere I would consider having a wedding. The country is beautiful, and the dollar goes far but there is a lot of poverty. Everywhere you go someone is either trying to get you to buy something or is begging for money. Which is usually expected but the thing that makes it so bad is that a lot of people have difficulty taking no for an answer. There were many occasions where even though we said no we were continually followed from store to store and even into a restaurant, to the point where it became harassment. We stayed in Puerto Plata but also went to Santo Domingo and it was the same in both areas. I've been to other islands even some that were more impoverished than DR, and have never dealt with that kind of aggression. Try looking into some other places like Jamaica, St. Lucia, St. Vincent, Puerto Rico, St. Kitts, Trinidad or even Mexico.

  3. Hi, I'm a specialist in wedding/honeymoons for VIP's here in the Dominican Republic. If you want to have "The" wedding

just contact me at platiuniumtrav@codetel.net.do, there you can ask me everything you want to know and I'll will tailor-made your wedding here under the Caribbean sun (shade).

I can manage up to 150 guests at your wedding.

    Bye Bye and congratulations!

  4. I think it would be nice...my boyfriend and I went a year ago (we are mid-20s) and really loved it. We stayed in Puerto Plata, which was very safe (we left quite a bit to walk downtown) and more resort-like than the other cities. We stayed at Lifestyle Tropical Resort, and booked on CheapCaribbean.com. They had 5 restaurants plus the buffet, and alchohol was included too. The beach was amazing for the wedding if that's what you were thinking, and the rooms were beatiful (and we are young, and only spend $1400 for 7 days, and airfare!) We brought $400 spending cash and came home with more than half!!

There is so much to do your guests would have a blast, we did a lot of sight seeing - we went snorkeling on Paradise Island a day trip, hiking, up to Mt. Isabella (which costs like 3 bucks american), laid on the beach, etc. Your hotel will have agents there from different travel companies offering all types of excursions - you can barter these prices too! Hope you have a good time :)

You can email, and I could send personal pics if you were really interested also - jewlzz226@aol.com

  5. I would have suggested Cuba to you because it is go beautiful there and very safe. It would be awesome to have a wedding there. But since you are also having US guests, it might make it more difficult for some to come to your wedding.

Why don't you consider the Mayan Riviera in Mexico? I had a friend get married there.

Or you can perhaps go to Puerto Rico.

Look at the links below and see the different resorts. Hopefully that will help.

    Have a wonderful wedding!

  6. Oh yes , beautiful... Im dominican and ive been there  3 times... The beaches and resorts are beautiful.... Have fun!......
