  1. They're Grim. I was a very sensitive child. On the other hand, maybe those tales hardened me to life in the raw.

Cinderella is normally attributed to Charles Perrault - who was French, but there is a collection of 209 tales from the Brothers Grimm and Cinderella is one of them. You'll find the details by Googling 'Grimm's' Fairy Tales.'

  2. Those things are frightening! I like the one about the boy who couldn't fear, so went out and tried to learn what it was, and then got all this treasure =)

Cinderella is pretty macabre. The step-sisters cut off some of their feet to be able to fit into Cinderella's small slipper. Ew.

Edit: I know Cinderella is originally French; I was talking about the one the Grimm Brothers did. It was gross!

  3. they're awesome, because they're really gruesome. but some of them have sort of bizarre plot lines, i know they're fairy tales but some of them are just random.

  4. I've only read the kids versions printed today, but I'd love to get my hands on the originals! I love the stories even if they are watered down. It was all folk tales and you just don't see work like that any more.

  5. I love them! Oh the days before the nanny-state when children could have the most mobid stories told to them so they actually learnt a lesson :)

  6. The Brothers Grimm did a fantastic job of collating the age old stories of European folklore then had them printed for the wider audience.

They did not write these tales themselves as many people actually believe.

These I purport to be the facts, a quick check and you could add this to your notes

  7. Well some of them scare the heck out of little kids, but they sure teach them something. I really liked Rumpelstiltskin when I was younger. They most famous, Little Red Riding Hood, is a childhood staple as well.

I really like them the more for their morbidity. I think that makes them more entertaining.
