What do you think of the NYC ban on "trans" fats and junk food?

Government controls over what people eat in NYC: "trans" fat and junk food outlawed by City Council

What's next? Police raids on birthday parties? (cake)

Girl Scouts arrested? (selling cookies)

Cars searched for Fritos?

What's going on in this country when the government can tell us what to eat and not eat?

  1. I think it's stupid to ban it... people should have the option to eat whatever they want. I do think there should be information available about how bad it is and then let people decide for themselves. I mean they haven't banned cigarettes yet and they are banning trans fat? Get real!

  2. Oh and they still allow cigarettes..I think it's a lot of communist pomp.

  3. really no more junk food omg can they do that . i personally would love it here becuz then i wouldnt be able to buy the chips that i keep trying to stop eating so it takes the wrk out for me :) quik question are they planning to do this or already did

hehe i like the cookie selling girl scouts getting arrested and th car searched for fritos hehe made me laugh

  4. They don't need to ban trans fat ... they need to let people know what foods contain it and how much . So we can make our own informed decisions .

  5. news to me, but I'd see it as a public health issue, like they should outlaw cigs...obesity and smoking cause the vast majority of preventable diseases in the US......could save tons of health dollars..of course, I dont think they should outlaw eating the stuff, but maybe limiting the fat content of foods sold in fast food businesses or something like that....

  6. I was thinking to ask the same question since they were talking about it on the radio this morning.  They said that the Mayor was thinking about making some laws on salt next.  That's just insane.  What's going on in this country when this happens is that we are drifting away from democracy.  We are losing our freedom.  It's extremely un-American, this ban on trans fat, not that I advocate eating that garbage but I do feel that people should have the right to choose what goes into their bellies.

Everyday now I feel like it's more and more like 1984.  It's a scary time to be alive.

  7. well as we know the greasy Food is no good for any one, NY try to help understand and protect as from eating bad food.i strongly disagreed for any conferment police invade our homes ,or privet party's or edifier's with our privet lives .the Truth is our freedom is shrieking, slowly but surly

  8. They're called the Junk food Police, and they're violating peoples rights to eat them,as if there werent more IMPORTANT crimes to go after! I eat some junk food, but not enough to be obese and i work out numerous times a week.

  9. I think Bloomberg has lost his mind.

However, this is a glimpse of a future run by socialists who think that the government can make the best decisions in how we run our lives. The more power you give the government, the more it feels it should control you.

  10. I don't think we should ban everything, but we do need to be able to make informed decisions as consumers. I think that businesses need to openly disclose trans fats, allergens, and other such health issues and let the consumer decide what they want in their bodies.

  11. Trans fat is dangerous just like meth is dangerous. The government should ban it.

All they're saying is to use a different fat when cooking. Why not use sunflower oil or some vegetable oil instead?

  12. this country really needs it. I recently went on vacation and over half of the people were obese. In Japan they have a new law were you get fined for being over weight.
