Im thinking of going to boarding school next year. And I heard of this Swiss boarding school, Le Rosey. It sounds good, but has anyone here gone to it or heard of it? What's it like? What do you think of it?

  1. ITS AWSEM!! I'M GOING THERE IN A COUPLE OF YEARS, HOPE SO!! & I TOOK SUMMER THERE, AWSEM!! A GREAT SCHOOL!!

  2. It's a famous school and quite Jet Set...

There are some other good boarding schools:

Montana Zugerberg (school of John Kerry, Marc Forster)

    Lyceum Alpinum Davos

  3. I'd never heard of it (girls in my family traditionally go to boarding school at Kambala; boys at Shore).

However, looking at their website it does seem pretty impressive and as though it'd be a very enjoyable experience to go there. If my parents wouldn't think I'd lost the plot (by suddenly announcing I do want to go to school after all, lol!) I wouldn't mind going there myself!!

I'm especially taken by their extensive sporting programme, the chance to do either the IB or the French Bac...oh, and getting to spend winters up in the mountains skiing, snow boarding etc!!

Not too sure many people here will have gone to it though - this being the homeschooling board and all that. Maybe if you tried asking on one of the conventional school boards??

If you live in Europe, maybe you should try to arrange to spend a week or so at the school before making up your mind if it is the right place for you. Alternatively, ask for the name and contact details of a couple of current students whom you could talk to (and your parents could talk to their parents) before you and they decide whether or not to commit to Le Rosey (that's what boarding schools here do before you start anyway).

My only other 'hint' would be that, if at any time you do get the chance to visit Le Rosey, you and your parents should take the opportunity to talk to the local people (shopkeepers etc) before making a final decision - often they're the people who will give you a heaps more honest and accurate picture of a school, its students, its teaching, its reputation and standing in the wider community - as unlike the school or anyone else associated with it, such people have nothing to sell or gain by exaggerating its benefits, achievements etc or playing down any negatives which might be associated with the school.

Oh and don't forget that as obvious as it seems you'll have to budget for airfares as well as school fees and I reckon the cost of living would be pretty high in a country like Switzerland. Also make sure you've always got either an open ended air ticket (or enough money to buy yourself a plane ticket home at the last minute) just in case there are ever any emergencies/family problems at home whilst you're away at school and you need to get home asap.
