  1. Charles G hit the nail on the head.  I couldn't have said it better.  The story of Adam and Eve is a creation story.  It's a parable.

Creation stories answer the question "where did humanity/Earth /life come from?" - most religions have at least one (the world's mythologies, too).

Here's some great world-wide creation stories to read through when you have time - http://www.gly.uga.edu/railsback/CS/CSIn...

  2. What about it?

  3. i believe its the churches way of snuffing out feminism(blaming women for the downfall of mankind). in other words, its a propaganda tactic used against other competitve religions who still worship the goddess(i.e. witchcraft and other pagan/earth/nature based religions)

  4. I believe it.

  5. It was quite interesting.

  6. its true. at least thats what i think.

  7. 1) The 'man' one whose ribs became Eve was androgynous, a hermaprhodite.Think about it. Also, women of other races were readily available to become the wives of "the first couple"s sons.

    2) The 'fall' was the first step towards the rise to mind, reason and intellectuality, for which the destruction of innocence is necessary.

I seen the hand of extraterrestrial, or even of very advanced (for the region) terrestrial, intervention in both instances. No Almighty God and creation out of nothing here at all.

  8. totally fake, we evolved from apes of course..it makes more sense

  9. Nice story, but just that...a story.  I have never believed it was an accurate account of anything that ever really happened.

  10. i am christian and believe it did happen

  11. By religous books you mean the bible, and i dont believe in them but i do believe in god because there have been so manny stories now adays that have proven he is real and plus its a good thing to believe in him because when your having a bad time you can always turn to him for helpXD

  12. I think a lot of the context is lost or not well understood.

It is an "origin" story, trying to explain why there is evil in this world, with a good God.

    Some random thoughts...

The serpent would be understood as a rival Deity (I believe there was some serpent/god worship when the story was developed. The trees, imo, represent the people around-lots of trees, lots of people, tree of life-Adam or Adam's lineage, tree of knowledge, Eve or Eve's choice. I think the context of this was clearer in those days..... kind of like today someone saying they were in a pickle ;-)

And of course Adam blamed Eve, and Eve blamed the serpent, no one taking responsibility.

Eating the fruit is still referred to as having s*x.

Garden of Eden was Iraq or Iran (the east, where Edom was) etc.

I know this isn't was I was taught in Sunday school

  13. I think is a pretty good story.

  14. I believe the Bible is true.
