One of the worst teams of 2007 has chosen what will be the oldest leadership team of 2008.

Has Melbourne taken the commemoration of its own longevity a little too far?

The club has named seven players to form this years leadership group. The list includes three 30-somethings (Neitz, Yze and 31-year-old James McDonald), two late-20s types (Robertson and 28-year-old Cam Bruce) and only two players under 25 (21-year-old Brock McLean and 24-year-old Brad Miller).

It's a wonder they didn't try & entice Jim Styants back to play - & appoint him captian!

  1. I agree with the appointment.

I'm from the old school of thought - I think senior & experienced players make the better team captains. Young blokes need the experience of playing in a senior team environment for a few years before taking on the task of captain.

  2. I'm fine with it gutsache, they really don't have anyone else who fits the bill in my opinion.

he does have the whole teams respect i would think. probably his last year, injuries are catching up on him, but he is inspirational, no matter what people think of Melbourne.

  3. I think he is the only man they have for that job.

I think they could appoint Captain Marvel as their captain - it still would not be enough for them to make the finals.

  4. lol yeah. Stupid idea. They need to get some young kids in th group at least so they can prepare to take over when neitz leaves. They need more than 2 young players the more leadership in th team th better.

  5. I think he was the best man for the job, its most likey hes last year in the AFL, and i think next year McLean will be ready to take over as the Dees captain

  6. I agree that he is the best bloke for the job.

Who else could they have chosen? They need someone recognizable & respected by both players & fans.
