  1. And planets are surrounded by glass spheres.

Medieval society it's a creepy place full of ignorant people.

  2. Well... for the longest time we believed that until we left Earth, saw it from space, and thought, "Oh, golly, that is a very round Earth, better phone central."

I mean, for the longest time (dating back of Mesopotamia), and finally ended with the Greeks and Roman philosophers and astrologers. But there was a pretty big gap between these civilizations. And for the longest time who was to prove the Egyptians and such wrong? From what man could see, the further they walked, the same flatness they encountered, from that era little research was thought to be needed on the subject.

With mythology and faith being so strong back then, and the lack of discovered lands, it was impossible to prove one wrong, since all one feared during travels was simply sailing off the end of the Earth, strait into Hades.

But soon the discoveries erupted, and the explorers traveled, and the astrolgers pondered. It was not until Aristotle that we finally came up with a plausible amount of scientific evidence.

In 330 B.C., Aristotle argued that the Earth must be round fore when travelers head south the southern constellations rise higher above the horizon. This would only occur if their horizon was at an angle to northerners' horizon.

In 10 B.C., the Greek geographer Strabo argued, whilst at observing the sea, that elevated lights and areas of land were visible to sailors at greater distances than those which were less elevated, and claimed that the reason for it was because of the sea's curvature.

  3. Great myth that people used to believe the earth was flat. There is proof that long before we'd like to believe, they understood the earth ws curved. No one can live by an ocean and not see it.

Why is it that people need to believe our ancestors were all stupid and barbaric? that somehow we evolved? Do we not create war? How many wars are going on at this time in the world?

The myth= is a funny one. Good luck wiht your show.

  4. Not a bad idea.  If it was made flat then you could have two sides and double the surface area.

You might run into some gravitational problems tho.

  5. I know some people who are flat, don;t know about the earth though.

its long been proven that the scientists, sailors, and astrologers and the like knew the earth was spherical by their own calculations, and that it a popular myth that many believed the earth was flat.

  6. NOT MUCH.

  7. The idea has been proven wrong.

  8. Childish.

  9. It's not possible for any astronomical body larger than a certain size to be anything other than a sphere (because no natural material is strong enough to resist the gravity generated by such a large body).

  10. YOU'LL FALL OF ; I DON'T LIKE THE IDEA.

  11. I fell off. Its a bloody long way down.

  12. Will make for some interesting mountain ranges....?
