i need a new car and thought that however impractical it may be, it’s a bit special and maybe I should just go for it.

In addition, my mate owns a Land Rover / Jaguar specialist garage and will do any work at trade prices.

I know it’s expensive to run and insure but it’s a lovely car, or should I just buy a VW Golf and be sensible?

I was thinking of something like this:

  2. heavy on petrol, but what a car, my dad was gonna buy one but he decided to go for an S-type.

    Jags = great cars

  3. His "Buy it now" price is main dealer with warranty strong for a kick-off, check Parkers, you'll see what I mean.

    Maybe you can afford to run it, but plenty can't, so prices for these superb big bruisers is on the floor just now, the only saving grace is that it just slips into the pre CO2 tax nonsense, so a year's ticket will only cost about £210.

    Get it checked out and offer him £5k for it, pay no more than £6k after haggling!

  4. Honestly, I love it. That is pretty much the only Jaguar Model I approved of. But, reliability is another question. Considering you are in the UK, parts for a Domestic Car would be cheaper.

    If I were you, I would look at a Mercedes Diesel or something that is bound to last long.

    Good Luck

  5. perfect.

    If your old xx

  6. Well if you have friends that can do the work then I say go for it man.

    I owned a 1993 Jaguar XJR-S,

    Mine was #14 of only 100 made!

    I like the look of the new ones.

    PS - I thought you said OLD not a 2001

  7. I've not long bought an XJ8 as I'd always fancied one. Sure, it's slightly older in terms of styling but Grace, Pace & Space are almost the by-words to enjoy driving a luxury car to....OK pitiful boot space & rubbish rear leg room compared to my last 'executive saloon' but still - it's quiet & comfy...until you put the foot down & that V8 burble  - or a whine in your case :) puts a smile on my face every time...and 18mpg ain't THAT bad is it ££££
