What do you think of the lonely planet travel guides?

some of the places mentioned in these books dont even exist

why is that?

Wow, that's interesting. I have never used one but I travel a lot. Maybe they are just outdated?

A friend of mine swears by these though... he says that they are definitely the best travel guides out there.

You need to purchase the most recent version of the guide book.  DK Eyewitness, Rick Steves, Frommers are also good  guidebooks. You must read through them to see which one is the best for you.  Also, if you are going to a specific city ; ie. Rome, Venice, Florence, pick up the book that covers only that city. Guidebooks can be very helpful.

Make sure you are looking at the current version.....I have had the same problem with other travel guides, but usually find that they are 1-2 years old!

Lonely Planet are usually pretty good!
