Here are some excerpts from the AP story (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080712/ap_on_re_us/obit_snow):

"With a quick-from-the-lip repartee, broadcaster's good looks and a relentlessly bright outlook — if not always a command of the facts — he became a popular figure around the country to the delight of his White House bosses."

"Critics suggested that Snow was turning the traditionally informational daily briefing into a personality-driven media event short on facts and long on confrontation."

Something tells me that we're not going to get the national outpouring of grief that met the death of the Tim Russert, who worked for Democrats before going into journalism.

  1. Snow was just another hit man nurtured by Faux News and later picked up by the Bush team. They figured since is was already a professional at political propaganda, they could use him on their team. He won't have the same fan fare as Tim Russert. It's a shame he passed without redeeming himself and signing on with CNN or MSNBC.

  2. Personally I don't think a political dynamic should even be of issue, applied, or a comparison be made of Tim Russert and Tony Snow's unfortunate recent passings.

They were both great in their fields and how they presented themselves to America. Both were likable and seemed an "everyman's man" in each instance.

I think the passing of Tim Russert might have gotten and did get and will probably end up being seen as a man that was mourned much more because of his longevity and amount of public interactions he had with so many people and politicians brought to our homes on "Meet The Press".

I feel though, that Tony Snow will be seen as an endearing man as much as Tim Russert.

I think the manner in which both died probably dictated the level of response although Tony's passing is still fresh and I'm sure plenty of dedications and such will follow. However, Tim died suddenly and unexpectedly of a major Cardiac event whereas Tony was already known to have Cancer and a sense of surprise or shock did not come with his death as it did Tim Russert's death.

I remember Tony speaking candidly on a couple of shows and one in particular with Bill O'Reilly since Tony and Bill were best of friends, Bill asked Tony the tough questions about his Cancer.

I remember Tony saying he was scared and yet he was fighting it, and was glad to say the Cancer then was in remission although as Tony said the best I can quote him as saying as I paraphrase: "The Cancer being in remission is of little comfort because they say they got all of it and the treatment has worked well, but, I can't feel comfortable knowing that this demon is still lurking".

He also went on to say he had partially come to terms with his mortality, but, that he would be lying if he was to say he was okay with it. Plainly put, he wanted to live and wanted more to beat the Cancer.

But, again,......to reiterate; I don't think there is so much a political aspect to the coverage of either's death. It would be a shame to even compare thier loss with a political bias.

It would be a shame if we have to interject a political level of measure to everything, especially death. Obviously this would be the crux of the recent passing of Jesse Helms, but, not for journalists regardless if either served in a capacity of politics when their main title was that of journalist.

I feel both were a sad and well too premature loss. I saw them both as great men whom were able to connect with many.

Even though Tony had said everything had been going well and the Cancer in remission, and somewhere along the way he had it returned prior to claiming remission, ..........it was easy to see how gauntly he appeared and his color was gray and he looked as though if his Cancer was in remission, there must have been a mistake or obvious the Disease had taken away so much of his life-force.

    ***NOTE TO LARDAWG***

To add to your insolent post on Snow,......I might as well also bring attention of your lack of staying informed a.k.a. Ignorance;............since you obviously don't know or realize of Tony Snow enough to realize that he had not so long ago signed on to CNN as a Sunday political analyst.

I know speaking with one's  demeaning opinions vs. one's cultivated knowledge is something that must be a foregone conclusion and quite a stretch for you.

It's best for one to have their facts straight before adding views. It's just the norm or what most of us do as a rule.

  3. I agree! and that's because they were

    different personalities.
