  1. Minimum wage is pretty much irrelevant for anyone who isn’t an illegal immigrant. You can make more than minimum wage panhandling so why would you take a job that pays less than you could get sitting on the street corner with your hand out? This is even more true if you actually do something to entertain the people walking by to give them a reason to fork over their spare change.

If you can’t afford to pay your employees minimum wage then you’re either trying to sell something that people don’t want or you picked the wrong location to set up shop.

Same goes for just about any claim businesses make about “labor shortages”. There’s no such thing as a labor shortage. Labor shortage is code for “we’re not willing to pay the market rate for this skill

  2. BAD IDEA! It is just hurting the economy even more

  3. 90% of people who make minimum wage are not the primary bread winners in their family.

75% of minimum wage workers are students (high school or university).

The argument that you can't live on the minimum wage is a smoke screen, because most minimum wage workers are not trying to support a family with their paycheck.

Raising the minimum wage will only cause prices to rise at places that employ minimum wage workers (including grocery stores).

  4. Great idea. It's still nowhere near a living wage really. It should be at least $8. They are people that say it will hurt business but in places that have a higher-than-national minimum wage, the economy's still just fine.

  5. i think thats its a great idea.

i work 30 hours a week and go to school full time.

i have no life bc i need to work that many hours to pay for gas food tution insurance and other bills.

its very hard to make do with making little money.

  6. Minimum wage won't have that large an impact.  Some union wages are tied to the minimum wage though.  IE this person makes 2.5x the minimum wage.  So a raise in the minimum wage can be construed as a forced raise for some unions.  I think the free market should determine the value of your labor.  I won't get started on unions....

  7. great

  8. it will make prices go up.

people on minimum will be no better off and the people who are above minimum wage who don't get an equal raise will be worse off .

but the fed. and state  govt will collect more taxes.

  9. Very simple answer...when the government forces an increase in minimum wage businesses will raise the prices of their goods and services to make up for their having to pay employees more. Even the companies that pay their employees more than minimum wage will use this as an excuse to increase the prices of their goods and services.

With minimum wage increases you will also see an increase in the number of people ON minimum wage because companies typically don't raise the wages of their employees who aren't on minimum wage because they are forced to raise their minimum wage workers...sometimes they'll give a cost of living raise of about $0.25 per hour. IE the employee who has been working hard for the company for 4 years and got themselves up to $8 is now going to almost be matched by the employee who was just hired for $5.75...what a way to raise morale for that first employee.

Employees also have a choice of where they get to work...they aren't FORCED to minimum wage...seeking employment is similar to shopping, the companies tell you how much their wages are and they try to compete to gain you as an employee. If you don't want to work for minimum wage you can always find a job somewhere else.

But no, we'll continue to believe increasing minimum wage is good for everyone when in fact it benefits nobody because you'll STILL be on minimum wage in the end if you don't find another job elsewhere.

  10. I would think that it would possibly help stimulate the economy.

  11. who works for minimum wage,  i did once when i was 16 years old,  never have since

Stay in school, and you won't have to worry about it

  12. Does not affect me.  I started my first real job way above minimum wage.  I believe wages should be fair and 5.15 an hour is not a fair wage.  7.25 is an acceptable wage to work low skilled jobs.

I actually applaud stores that choose to pay above minimum wage and I feel others who do not require steady minimum wage hikes to keep them in line.  We are human and we need something to live on.

The only down side is the economoes are different depending on where you live.  for example American samoa where the wages are around 5.00 or california where everything is insanely inflated.

  13. minimum wage should go up 50 cent ever yr like social sec do cause of cost of living

  14. love it i get paid minimum wage
