  1. I like regardless. so don't worry

  2. It is an old family name in my family and many of the younger girls have the middle name of 'Claire' because of it. I think you could call yourself Claire, if you want, but like both names. My grandmother did not like it when family members called her 'Clairee', which they did to tease her.

  3. It's a very old fashioned sounding name, but still nice, here is what www.ancestry.com has to say about the name,

    Clara

English, Italian, and German: post-classical Latin name, from the feminine form of the adjective clarus famous. In the modern English-speaking world it represents a re-Latinization of the regular English form Clare. In the Scottish Highlands it has been used as a translation equivalent of the Gaelic name Sorcha. Variant: German: Klara.

    Pet form: English: Clarrie.

    hope this helps.

  4. I think you mean with a short a.  The uh sound I think would be short. The aye sound would be long.  Ahmen is a short a and is used in the South to end a prayer and in England. Ayemen is the long a and is used in the North and in the South people use it as slang, like when they say "Ayemen brother!"  In Virginia they use the short a in potato, saying poe tah toe.

Names come in cycles and in fads.  Often times when we laugh at some of the old names before you know it they become fashionable.  The day will come when people will laugh at Brittney and Tiffany etc.

Clara is a variation of Claire and know doubt was made fairly common because of St. Claire.

  5. I used to take care of an old lady named Clara. So yes, it's sounds old lady to me. Isn't that the name of the little girl in "The Nutcracker" too? I wouldn't mess with the pronunciation to make it sound younger, I would change it to Clare, and tell everyone to call you that. I had a friend who's sister was named Dorothy, and she didn't like her name and started telling people to call her Dede. (Dee-dee) It worked.

  6. I like the pronunciation both ways, but you will still get called the old fashioned name because of the spelling.

I once knew a woman named Carol  which was pronounced Ka' roll.  Just had a hard time with it when I knew it was spelled the same.

  7. i like it it sounds cool

  8. It's a good name.  Not commonly used, but recognizable, and easy to pronounce. (you'll have a hard time getting other people to pronounce it right, though!)  It's got a nice sound to it, clear, like a bell.  It's not Carol or Claire or Karen, and you probably won't get associated with any TV characters.  It's pretty ageless.

  9. It's a wonderful name. It will probably come back in vogue, along with Hannah and Rachel. Names go through cycles. Pretty soon, "Emily" and "Madison" will join the wallflower list. Again.

I suggest you plan on taking the lead to show the world how pretty and wonderful women named "Clara" really are...that ought to get the name back on the top ten charts...

  10. i think its a beautiful name. In italian it would be Chiara, pronounced like this, Ki-u-ru. It's not an old lady name, it's a very feminine name and very classy.

  11. Doesn't make it sound young.

Infact makes it sound EVEN MORE like an old western name.

  12. I don't associate the name Clara with any specific age.  It's a nice name and Clara Marie is a good combination.
