Hi, my girlfriend was born in Montserrat,Caribbean, but has lived in England almost all her life, so I consider her British. I was born in London, England and have lived here almost all my life, but my parents are from Pakistan. The baby will be born in London.

All I can find on the internet is that it is Greek and means "The Sun" can someone give a more detailed explanation?

I am hoping the baby will be a boy; what do you think of the name? I like it a lot since it is very manly and has a strong presence. Do you think it fits with the background of the family, even though it is Greek?

Thanks in advance.

  1. it reminds me of either harry potter or hannah montana. sorry. I found Dysis and Helia for a girl, nothing for a boy. :) good luck

  2. I like it. it is unique.

  3. It's not just Greek, it's mainly Persian for "sun". Cyrus was also a great Persian king.

I don't see a problem with the ethnic background as Cyrus sounds pretty much like an English name. :)

  4. When I first hear the name it makes me think of Miley Cyrus/Hannah Montana. But it is a pretty name! How about Jayden, Jacob or Ryan for a boy and Madeline, Cassidy and Luna for girls! Good luck!

  5. Cyrus is persian. Pakistan and Iran are neighbouring countries so why not? Greek is also acceptable as there is a "Greek past" in the area of modern Pakistan: There was an  Indo-greek kingdom for some centuries there. If you need names of greek sun-, light-, moon-, star- gods here are some of these:

    sun (male): Helios(=sun), Hyperion

    moon (female): Selene(=moon), Helen, Hekate

    light(male): Phaethon, Phoebos

    light (female): Pasiphae, Phoebe

    star (female): Asteria
