Its a really cute name, I would choose Nat for the nickname though because Nate is more common.

Getting back to your question: I really don't like it. It sounds really old fashioned. The only way that I think that I think it could work is it you called him Nathan.

But if you really like it then name him that. It is your child, therefore it is your decision. Hope everything goes well!

I love the name, and Nate is a cute nike name.

I love that Nathaniel is old-fashioned and has a certain elegance about it but doesn't cross the line into ugly and over the top names that were popular a little while back. Since it's not popular I think it'll be a nice change and contrast to Nathan, which I don't think it nearly as cute.
