As a whole, do you like it?

And have you ever heard girls called Tabitha being called Tibby/Tybby, and do you like those?

Also, if you call your child a nickname since they were born (Isabelle being Izzy from the day she was born), do they grow up considering that what they're called? Like, when they're 25, are they gonna introduce themselves as it and stuff? (Obv. they know their name is just a shortening/abbreviation/whatever of their full name)

  1. I like the name Tabitha, tabby for short. I also like Cecillia.  I think a bot would get picked on big time with a name like Cecil. I dont't like that

  2. Cecil is horrible... no once someone get older they intoduce and go by thier full first name (except to thier parents!)

  3. personally i dont like tabitha because of the movie the ring...

its a really scary movie and the little girl in that movie is named that

and my real name is katherine

and my parents have always called me katie or K.D. since i was born (except for when i got in trouble) and i introduce myself as katie not katherine

but on like diplomas and stuff i go as katherine

  4. Tabitha makes me think of a witch.

Cecil is a terrible name.  Bigger kids will beat him up.

  5. I don't really like the name Tabitha. My cousin's name is Tabitha, and while I love her, she's just a different kind of person... lol. Not that her name has anything to do with her being different, it's just that's all I can think of when I hear the name Tabitha.

    Just say no to Cecil.

  6. tabitha is llike your calling a cat and think would def get shortened to tabby.

  7. I like the name Tabitha and Cecily. I don't know about Cecil for a boy.

  8. I like Tabitha. That is what my mom wanted to name me. I think kids like to be called by their nicknames. My name is Jennifer, I go by Jennifer, Jen, or Jenni. Just depends. Different members of my family called me bu various versions of my name. I love Cecily for a girl but nbot so much Cecil for a boy.

  9. I like Tabitha. It makes me think of witches familiars. (Because wiches often have cats for familiars, and it sounds cat-like to me as well)

My parents always called me Abby, and I prefer to be called Abigail now, so no I don't think that a kid will think of theirself just as their nickname.

I like Tibby, but I agree that it doesn't sound like a proper name.

I LOVE Cecily. Cecil is nice too, but it sounds kind of old-mannish. I think that's just because of the generation that I'm from though, and if you have a kid now, and name him Cecil, everyone else will just think of it as a unique name. (unique in a good way)

    Cecily is amazin though.

  10. A good friend of mine in school was named Tabitha. Her family usually called her 'Tabi' but they call her Tabitha also. Never heard them called her Tibby.

Another friend who was called Christie by everyone until she was six was traumatized to learn her name was really Christa. But, she was six, so it's hard to fully answer your question. She goes by Christa now.

Cecily is fine, but Cecil for a boy is just an invitation for trouble. (I say that with all due respect. One of the greatest governors of my home state of Idaho was Cecil Andrus.)

  11. Tabitha is a cats name.

    Cecily-NO

    Cecil-NO NO NO

Yes they would be embarassed, of corse they would.

  12. I know a guy named cecil he is cool. Gets lots of girls.

Tabitha is something i would name a cat.

And yea people will go by their nickname, other than introducing themselves professionally. But casually, sure why not. And if your into Ty--- than why not Tyra? Tybby is kind of weird.

  13. Cecily or even Cecilia is beautiful.

I think a boy would be embarrassed to be called Cecil.

Tabitha is nice, nickname is usually Tabby or Tabs.

  14. Cecil would DEFINATLY embarrass a boy. Cecila sounds better for a girl and maybe Chris for a girl.

    Tabitha is a weird name!

  15. Personally, I don't like the name Tabitha. I wouldn't call my daughter that if I ever had one. And you're not supposed to call babies nicknames when they're born until they get used to their real name first. Cecily makes a good name for a girl but don't call a boy Cecil because in the long run I don't think he'll accept that.

  16. Personally I'm not too keen on Tabitha but I have bad associations with that name and one particular person! lol!

My brother was christened Thomas and from when he was born he was called Tom. He now is known as nothing but Tom. Apart from when he's naughty!!

I like the name Cecily for a girl but I'm afraid Cecil sounds a bit, well, put bluntly- pouffy!! If I was a guy I wouldnt like it. If you do want to call him Cecil there is always the option of using his middle name as his "common" name. In wales this is done a lot! For instance, David Gethin Rees would be known as Gethin Rees. And Luiza Angharad Jones would be known as Angharad Jones. Catch my drift?

  17. I like the name Cecily but not Cecil

  18. Well, to tell you the truth, I never liked the name Tabitha. It reminds me of a witch and when you say it it sounds like you have a cold. Cecily is nice, I had a friend named that. It's unique but not crazy. Cecil for a boy is kinda old, though. Tybby is not a proper name for a baby, that's true, and don't name a kid Tabitha just so you could give her the nickname Tybby. Maybe Tybby can be the nickname for Tatiana?

Sometimes when you have a nickname that it what you introduce yourself by. But, that really depends on how well you like the nickname and how often you are called by it.  For example, I have a 5 yo. old cousin nicknamed Nikki but at school she is called Nicole.

Also when you are older, you may stop liking your nickname, so you might tell people to call you by your real name.

You had a lot of questions, it seems, but I answered them the best I could, hope it helps!
