What do you think of the name V?

I have a friend who is pregnant and due one week before I am. She intends to name the baby "V" if it's a girl. I don't really think it's a good idea, but it's her choice, I guess. Or should I speak up?

  1. Wow !

This baby is going to have such a fun life, her mother has such a great & creative imagination, don't you wish you could have just such a meaningful name ?

Speak up to your friend hun, her hormones have obviously addled her brain *lol*

    Good Luck.X :-)

  2. It is her choice, but I have to agree with you V is not a good name.  For a start it was the name of a programme about aliens, it is the first thing that came to mind when I saw your question.  She could use V as a nickname, or even change it to Vee, rather than just the letter.

  3. Speak up. Don't tell her that it's a horrible name, just tell her that you don't love it, and what about naming her Violette or Vivienne and having her nickname be Vi? I think that's adorable. (My vote goes for Violette). I don't think she'd get upset.

  4. Oy.  When will these parents STOP this foolishness?

"V" or "Vi" is fine as a nickname, but give the poor child a proper name! Plus, think of all the issues poor "V" will encounter with respect to applications.

I would tell your friend that "Vi' is a lovely nickname but "V" is just setting the parents up for some serious and time-consuming administrative hurdles.  Ask your friend if she is willing to sit on hold for hours trying to get "V" a social security number, etc.  Ask your friend if she is ok with explaining - MILLIONS of times - to teachers, other parents, physicians, etc. that "V" is the poor girl's real name.  Ask your friend if she is ok dealing with applications, etc. that are bounced back because they think the rest of the name is missing.  Point out that a mother will NOT have time to deal with this for the next 18 years.

Start pulling up every single name that begins with "v" and hand her the list.  She will probably thank you soon enough, even if she gets annoyed or offended now.

  5. Does V hold any significance to your friend? I think it's a bit ridiculous! What about Vi instead?

  6. I don t think it is a bad name.Probably is V like Victory. In documents will be f.e. V.Smith.Other children will be asked her V.

  7. People just don't seem to think when their baby grows up and goes to school, university, applies for jobs etc.

Noone will take such a person seriously and she'll end up changing her name and resenting her mother.

She could be named Vivienne to have a proper name and be nicknamed V.

  8. Not a good choice maybe suggest spelling it with more then one letter like "Vee" or "Vea"...

  9. You have got to be kidding me!! what the h**l is wrong with people these days!...Far out!..i think that is so stupid, poor f***** child. tell her its a s*** name before she ruins her childs life!

  10. my name is olivia, and V is my nick name,i think it would be better as a nick name and not a full name

names tht start with V, or have V in it

    via

    vivienne

    valorie

    eveline

    eva

    ava

    olivia

    yvette

    elvira

    veronica

    victorica

    vanessa

    viola

    violette

    ivy

    ivelice/ivelisse

    valencia

    valentina

    vanna

    vanya

    vega

    yvonne

  11. That's not a name, that's a letter! Perhaps something that starts with V would work, then she can call her V for short.

    Vanessa

    Veronica

    Violet

    Vivienne

    Valerie

    Victoria

  12. um

    yeah no don't do it.

tell her 'V' can be a nickname for Vanessa or Evie or anything like that.

  13. v???? nah, make that a nickname. she should have a FULL name. i think you should speak up...try suggesting it to her, but dont force her out of it if she doesnt want to... its her baby.

  14. Well the first thought I had was where's the rest of her name? It's certainly different but I agree that it's maybe best to have her name start with V and then just call her that. People might call her 'five' too.

  15. i think its cool.. but has she watched v for vendetta?? if she hasnt make her watch it.

  16. Speak up! Tell her that it'd be better as a nickname. How about Violet or Victoria etc.

  17. I think it's nice as a nickname but not as a full name.  She should name the child something beginning with a V and then nickname her this.

Imagine how behind she'll be when in nursery they learn to write their name and she can only write one letter!

  18. she has to spell it Vee.

or give the child a proper name

  19. Well it is her choice, tho horrible as it is. V isn't a name and i don't understand why she would want a letter for a name.

Can she just not give her child a name that starts with a "V" and call her V for short, as a nick name? That would be a lot better, i think.

  20. WHen someone asks the poor kid its name when shes old enough to talk, she's say, "Vee! Vee!"....she would souund quite retarded....

There are about 10.3 billion common names in existence.....arent there any others she she could choose?

  21. That is a pretty bad name. It seems like her mother is was too lazy to come up with an actual name and im sure when her kid gets older she wont appreciate it at all. It is her choice though but i would suggest to her that she should keep looking for the "perfect name". Trust me V is not it!!!!

  22. No name? Just "V"?  Is it short for something?

  23. Oh no! Poor kid. Maybe she could at least spell it Vee? I do think you should, like you said, kindly speak up. As long as you aren't rude about it, there shouldn't be any problem with you saying anything. I think she'll be glad to see your opinions and where your coming from. Tell her it may seem cute to her now, but later on her daughter will most likely hate her name. If she likes the letter V so much you could sugges these names to her (and she could call her daughter V for short!):

    Victoria ~ Meaning: Winner, Conqueror

    Veronica ~ Meaning: Bringing Victory

    Valerie ~ Meaning: Strength

Vanessa ~ Meaning: Combination of Van and Esther

Veanna ~ Meaning : Combination of V and Anna (This sounds perfect!)

Veda (prn vay-duh) ~ Meaning: Eternal knowledge

    Venecia ~ Meaning: From Venice

Vera (prn veer-uh) ~ Meaning: Faith

Vianca ~ Meaning: Fair Skinned, White

Vienna ~ Meaning: From Wine Country (This sounds good too! the Vee sound is still in the name)

    Vivien(ne) ~ Meaning: Alive

Good luck and congrats to your friend on her baby! :o)

Also good luck and congrats to you on your baby! :o)

  24. Google "The V".. IT was an old show about aliens that came to earth..It was amazing how many people watched this show..That's what that reminds me of

  25. What a c**p name! You definitely need at least three letters, otherwise it looks stupid. Try suggesting names like Violet, so she could call her V as a nickname.

  26. If she is set on V, at least try to spell is Vee.

  27. Just V, that's dumb.  It's a letter, not a name

Vivianne and V as a nickname, I have seen that done with Vivianne

You can suggest V as a nickname, for Vivianne or another name start with an V

  28. I don't think she should name her baby that.

  29. Is that even legal? I thought names had to be at least 2 letters?? I think it's horrible..like everyone else I say name her something that starts with a V and nickname her V then..

  30. I don't think it's a good idea at all. V is a letter, not a name.
