I am writing a business plan for a lawn care company that will model its business around being "green." we will use biofuels, hybrid vehicles, solar power, and chemical free lawn treatment. what about the name "the green people?" i thought about the name "ecoworks" or "ecoscape." i'm not sure if people really know what the word "ecology" means, so i don't know if that would be a good move. my tagline would be "lawn care management for the environmentally-conscious cosumer" what do you think? would you hire me over the aveage joe lawn care guy that that isn't as "green" ?

  1. Sounds like you work on a golf course.

  2. Green Grass

  3. Will you also use manual lawn mowers for smaller lawns? I think that the name is good. It's a popular term right now that society associates with having an environmentally friendly attitude, which is what you have! Good luck!

  4. i like it.

it's short and easy to remember.

    and does indicate your values.

how and where do you intend to advertise?

that should indicate what business you're in.

once people know, it's not a problem.

    "would i hire you?"

where do you intend to work?

an environmentally friendly community would be good.

as would a community that has money.

  5. I think that is a bit too common. "Green" is overused. I like the idea of using Eco... like eco-lawn. Or something like "True Earth Lawn Care"

  6. how about THE GREEN PEOPLE FOR A GREEN LAWN leaves no don't for what the business does

  7. GLC, Green Lawn Care....easy to say.....fits on the tongue.....everybody can tell what´s GREEN in the company it´s the CARE...It´s not necessary to involve the word "people", I would not buy a "hippie" or a "tree hugger" character over the company. It have to appear professional and efficient. A lot of extra green "bells and whistles" can scare people away too....."do I have to pay for all that extra?"

Hybrid vehicles OK...bio fuels OK...chem free OK....solar panel OK....

How about composting the clippings at the customers house. That will save extra trips to the dump. Leave clippings on the ground  and reduce fertilizing. Etc etc. Also remember that the "green" comittment can be hard to carry when you get a customer that want little more "green" than you can give. That can start negative advertising.

I think it´s good to see a landscaping company going green......In ten years from now we will have 99% of businesses "green", but it won´t show in the name. Thats how it turned out in parts of Europe, they started with environmentally certifying companies more than 15 years ago.......See ISO 14001:2004

  8. "The green people" sounds a bit odd to me, for any kind of business (sounds like little green Martians will come and attack me!), but I REALLY like "Ecoscape".  Chances are the people who would specifically seek an eco-friendly landscaping service will know what the ecology is... Plus we hear the term "Eco-friendly" so often now, that ecoscape says it all.

Good luck in your business venture.

  9. I think that you need something in your name that refers to the lawn / garden.  Otherwise, you could be a ethanol company, an organic food vendor, or an environmentally-friendly cleaning company.  I see so many "green" companies with names that could honestly refer to ANYTHING and I'm afraid that "the green people" falls into that category.

I'd prefer something about making your lawn REALLY green or The Green Lawn People or something like that.

Great idea - good luck with your business model.   It sounds quite good.

  10. Exactly what "chemical free" lawn treatments are you planning to use.  I bet I can find a whole bunch of chemicals in them.
