After the Olympic Games, I am curious whether people's view of China has changed or not. So what's your opinion? Still think the same way or have any different feelings after the games? like this country or not?

  1. What new China?  It's still as repressive as ever.  China put on a big fancy show for everyone, but it was at the same time whitewashing a lot of things which are all too familiar to the average Chinese.  I do not trust the government of China one bit.

  2. no New China, at most it improved the awful public transportation  system of Beijing.

A country is determined by economy, not Olympics, but yes, Olympics does have effect on a country's fate, there're 3 ways for China to go down:

1, Japan and S.Korea, before Tokyo and Seoul Olympics, Westerners loved bashing these 2 countries too, after that these 2 countries did improve their political system and daily life.

2, USSR, not to mention, this Moscow Olympics accelerated the death of USSR.

    3, Germany before WW2-----War

  3. There is NO new China.  It is the same old China.  But it is showing its strength and power.  Basically, don't mess with us or we will open a can of whoppass on you.  We are no longer the weak kid on the block.  You will pay for your actions.  However, if you act like a friend, we will treat you like a friend.  If you act like idiots, we will treat you like idiots.

  4. There is NO "new" China.  It is same China as before.  But people might finally see the "other side" of China.

My opinions of it has NOT changed.  But then again, I travel there often and can see it for myself.

Most people are too close mind to change their own opinions.

  5. For some people China will always be the same, or should I say the hatred they have for China will always remain the same.

Clearly they don't want to admit what China has achieved in the past 30 years

Clearly it's not my problem if they want to lie to themselves

  6. New China? I thought China was an old civilization.

OK, liking this country is one thing, but if you try to equate my liking to a liking for the communist regime, let me tell you in no uncertain words that I still hate the regime. As much as I did before.

  7. No change of view towards China.  I hope everyone realizes that the people are really nice there and nothing like the actions by the government.  What is interesting is that any non-flattering comments regarding their government is taken as an attack to the Chinese people.  Many sees the government and the people as one.  This reminds me alot like religion.  Some of my friends there are not happy with the amount of money they spent on the Olympics, they recognize that the show is not a true representation of the current situation there.  It is not as repressive as the media portrays, but it is not nearly as "free" as the west.

[Art of War] Kim Jong il has an approval rating of 100% from their citizens, so does that make North Korea better than China?

  8. As someone who lives in China not much of my view has changed apart from the fact that

    a) They can put on a good show then it is needed.

However it is the behind the scenes of the Olympics that bothers me.

Art of war you make a good point, however its a case of individuals in the UK vs governmental polity in China and Muslims it seems are a problem in the Xinjiang too. A case of YOU TOO!

  9. Not really a new China, just another side of China. I agree with some people above me. China is still a developing country and it has achieved so much from 20 years ago. When everybody rode bicycles, when the hotel towels were like dish rags. Such a massive achievement in 20 years.

  10. Opinion changed? No. Communism is the act of immaturity and almost enslavement of a country. A communist nation just tells everyone what to do (to an extent), disgusting. For example Chinese Officials claim there is a specific park in Beijing to protest at peacefully, if you have a problem with anything, yet If you go there and protest you are arrested and sent to "re-education camp" for a year. Basically propaganda by  the Chinese Government - pathetic. The country wasted 40 billion on the olympics to try and impress outside nations with a false display of their country - trying to tart it up. All the peasants over there are dieing while the businesses are striving and they're building sky scrappers. May God guide them to democracy and to a safe nation in the future.

  11. It hasn't changed. All that i hope has changed is people's mindsets of China. I'm Chinese-Korean, currently living in Singapore.

  12. There's no such thing as NEW CHINA

  13. there are no decrease. It is getting awake from its sleeping. It appears sometimes good. sometimes bad

  14. I agree, there is no new China after the olympics, nothing has really changed.

But as my Chinese friends (I live in China) have been saying, this isn't about changing China. This is about showing the world what China is, to remove many of the common misconceptions that are so often heard about China.
