  1. I really believe they need new leadership.  A dream this inspiring shouldn't be driven by dolts.

  2. Do they actually do something? I never hear anything good about them, in fact, I don't hear ANYTHING about them.

  3. They're full of peace

    underated

and don't get the attention they deserve.

    You asked.

Edit#1:  Poor Timmy, you think 60k/yr is mucho money?  You think there are better ways to manage the same mission as the peace corps?  What's the "better way" to get the job done?

Also, I'm sure there's more to this "open container" violation.  And if there isn't, I'm sure they spelled out the chances of one being accepted with a background problem.

  4. I was a Peace Corps Volunteer for two years, many years ago. It was a wonderful experience for me, and it helped 120 or so students in Sarawak.

Most of the questions about it crop up in the community service category. The word "Corps" makes it sound military, like the Marine Corps, but it isn't connected to the DoD in any way. The Salvation Army is divided into Corps too, but they are not soldiers.

I was going to send a quiet note to Timmy, to suggest he edit his answer, but he doesn't allow e-mail. His friend with the MA and open container viloation makes $60,000 a year or 60 grand  a year, I bet. $60,000 grand a year would be $60,000,000.

  5. They work hard.  They go abroad to the most impoverished countries and act as America's goodwill ambassadors.  No decent person could say anything bad about what they do.

  6. They are too selective.  My classmate who wrote a wonderful master's thesis on third world development was denied since he had an open container violation.

Instead of volunteering over in Africa, he took his MA in economics and now makes $60,000 grand a year.

s***w the peace corps.  There are better ways to make a positive difference.

  7. Quite possibly the best thing to have come out of America...

For those who say "America doesn't make anything anymore"...the Peace Corps make people's lives better.
