  1. I don't smoke, but here's my opinion:

    It's stupid.

    Why?

Because they already had non-smoking pubs/areas, and in the areas where they allowed smokers, there was usually a non-smoker section.

If people had felt that strongly about smoking being rude and obnoxious, you would have thought they would have taken into consideration how many customers the pubs will lose from banning smoking.

If just seems stupid to ban something that they had already made accomadations for. (non-smokers and non-smoking areas)

  2. it sucks

  3. A brilliant idea, should have been done years ago.

All those smokers standing outside in the snow, what will kill them first cancer or hypothermia.

  4. it's awesome, i love it :)

  5. I am so for it! i am a non-smoker, and used to hate coming in from a night out stinking of other people's dirty habit! It's the most sensible thing the government has done for a long time!

  6. Some people complain that it's not fair but what is fair about polluting the lungs of a non-smoker and pub staff and making them stink of nicotine and put up with the disgusting sight off an over-flowing ash tray?Nothing is the answer.(ex-smoker,who apologises to those I may have effected.)

  7. I think it's an insane idea!  I stopped smoking years ago, more through need than anything else, but I think it's a crazy idea.  Poorer people in society, of which there are plenty, have few pleasures in life as it is.  Also, the revenue from tobacco, if the anti smoking lobbyists get their way, will dry up completely.  That's the last we'll see of the NHS, which costs a fraction of the money that the government gets from tobacco taxes.  The rule should have been to have some bars smoke free, where the people who want to live to 100, at a fantastic cost to the health service can go, and some bars for smokers, where people who enjoy smoking, and have an early return to the spirit realm can go; rather than spending the last decades of their lives in a chemically induced catatonic state while being a fantastic burden upon the state, the health service and everybody around them.  Very few people grow to a ripe old age without suffering constant extreme physical pain, turning into very disagreeable grumpy individuals who are afraid of everything and enduring unbearable boredom as they watch their body slowly deteriorate into something that is absolutely useless.

Cancer at about 65 will do me fine.

  8. I dont smoke, but think it tough on the smokers. Compromises like smoking rooms dont work either...

Let the pub owners choose and the consumer should decide where to go.

  9. it is pants................................don... go out nearly as much as i used to, i have beer and darts with me pals in my garage

  10. Brilliant, they should now ban it everywhere.

  11. It's great and the answers from the smokers show what a bunch of self-centred b*st*rds they are.

And as for it killing off the pub-trade.......Bullsh*t.

It's excessive taxes on beer wine and spirits and supermarkets underpricing alcohol that's killing off the pub trade.

  12. simple

publicans should have a choice of smoking or non-smoking

    end of

  13. Im a NON smoker but i do think it's unfair.

They should bring back the smoking areas and non - smoking areas.

  14. Great

  15. i'm a smoker so i think it sucks.

  16. sux

  17. the pubs now smell of old beer, and bo which smoke massed

  18. I think that all pubs should be given the option of either to smoke or not to smoke. Then it's down to the choice of the public which one to go to.

  19. Its a good idea for those who do not smoke. At least when you reach home your clothes does not smell of smoke. Second hand smoke is very dangerous to your lungs.

It is very difficult to stop smoking, but, at the same time the savings can be tremendous when you do stop.

  20. Best idea govnerment has ever come up with, should of been done ages ago.

  21. Regardless of weather you smoke or not, what annoys most people is that the government promised in their mandate, prior to being elected, that there would be no total ban. An allowance was to be made to have separate smoking rooms but that turned out to be one of their many blatant lies!

However the ban will never be revoked so let's now have a ban on alcohol in pubs, supermarkets and restaurants, including all advertising of alcoholic drinks. Apart from it being bad for your health it is the cause of a h**l of a lot more crimes of violence than tobacco ever has been.

  22. I think it's great. I myself, only have one lung and find it difficult to be in a very smoky area for a long period of time. I think if you want to smoke, that's your decision, but the people around you that don't want to smoke, shouldn't have to suffer as well.

  23. As someone who smoked I couldn't wait for the ban to come in.  Any smoker will tell you that they can tolerate their own cigarette smoke but not other peoples!!!!  Having given up on 1st Jan you really do notice how smelly people are who smoke!!!  Must admit tho that pubs smell really awful now  what with other peoples sweat, toilet fumes etc.

  24. Hi, It's Good........i really think there should be a smoking room in Pub's and Club's so that people who smoke can go there. But i don't smoke and i don't like to breathing in other people's smoke, i have never objected but to have the option is nice. I don't go to nightclubs anymore but i work with a lot of youngsters that do, and they tell me that because of there being a smoking ban the nightclubs smell of sweat, as the smoke masked the smell of sweat. Also there was nothing worse than a drunken person on the dance floor with a cig in their hands, burning other peoples skin and clothes.

  25. I was a smoker for 50 years.  The smoke ban in pubs and restaurants etc., forced me to confront the issue of my smoking.  So, with the help of my doctor managed to give it up following a one months crash course on some anti-smoke tabs.

I recommend that anyone who wishes to give up, give it a try.  The NHS have lots of help on hand.

I'm now 66 and already the financial benefits of not smoking are plainly obvious to me.  I'm no longer overdrawn at the bank, inspite of 'wild excessive' spending on the town with my parter.  It's the cigareetes, now at £5.50 a pack = £11 a day for a 40 a day person like I used to be; = £77 a week.  Don't need to tell you that £77 is a d**n good feed in any restaurant near where I live.  Tea for two [nearly] at the Ritz.

This next video is tea at the Ritz - the Palm Court no less.  What wonderful surroundings.  You'll need to book up weeks in advance though : -

No smoking...just as well when you look at the expensive decore.

  26. It is about the best decision this government has made.

  27. It's the dying embers for the pub trade

  28. Good idea. I hated it when I used to go home after an evening out stinking of f**s and I didn't even smoke! It honestly made me feel physically sick.

And apart from that side of it, why should I risk my health because of another persons addiction?

  29. This is a bit old news now but I used to smoke when the ban came in, it did'nt really bother me, just went outside, to be honest pubs did get a bit too smokey that it made my eyes water. Now I have quit, hey yippee no probs.

  30. Its really nice now that you don't come out smelling of them when you don't actually smoke.

  31. Im in two minds - I want to quit, in which case the ban would be brilliant - But I havent managed to quit yet - So its annoying that I have to go out to smoke.
