  1. On one hand the top 5 seem relatively even. But there are some who are not so exciting to watch.  I like watching Serena, Maria, and Jankovic games; although Jankovic can drive me crazy sometimes with her inconsistencies. I think she could be tons better if she had a better trainer.

I think because men's tennis is evolving, it's interesting to see. Men's tennis is faster, so it's exciting. They paint the lines more, there is more intensity.

  2. When I've watched them, they've seemed slow and inflexible. Also, they seem to tire much easier. I don't like watching women's tennis, because I hate asking the T.V. "I could have gotten that shot," when it's professional players playing

  3. I think that there are only a handful of players in the women's field that are good and certainly none of them are committed enough to the sport to compare with some of the greats of the past like Navratilova, Graff and Seles.

The only really standout players left in women's tennis to me are Serena, Venus, Sharapova, Ivanovic and Jankovic. Those are the only one's making any kind of consistent impact on the tour now that Justine Henin is gone. Venus and Serena are already great champions and Sharapova is on her way to becoming one (although she still has a long way to go). Ivanovic and Jankovic still have a lot to prove and a lot to improve upon if they want to take it to the next level. But I really don't see anyone else threatening to win grandslams on the women's tour. It's really too bad Justine Henin retired because she could still come back and be a threat to win the majors.

Oh and I disagree with Karen slightly about everyone doing steroids now and that's the only reason they are better. For one, steroids wouldn't really help you much in tennis. But beyond that, the anti-doping procedures are so much tighter today than they were years ago that it's almost impossible to get away with it today (especially in tennis). Martina Hingis was banned for allegedly doing cocaine (certainly not a performance enhancing drug).

The reason why atheletes in general are better and better generation after generation has more to do with their training regiment (weight training), physical conditioning, and advancements in technology. The players today can hit the ball harder, run faster and can play longer than they could in the past but technically, they aren't any better than the previous generations. They also sustain more injuries because the game requires more strength and is more grueling.

  4. The women's tennis is doing well right now even with justine henin's departure. The field is wide open and there's really no clear cut contender. Serena, Maria, Venus, Ana, Jelena... are the top 5 right now  nvm the rankings... One of them will take Olympics, Us Open, and the Year End Championships...

We can't compare them to the past greats considering they are playing in different eras... Nowadays its more of power tennis and that takes a toll on players... Longevity is pretty rare and we won't see anyone taking all  4 grand slams in a row like graf...( serena will probably be the last one for now)  its just too competitive. We will never see someone play the game for a long time like the Martina Nav did.

So the current generation is playing well enough! and hopefully will end the season on a Great note.!

  5. i find womens tennis incredibly difficult to watch.

    zzzzzzzzz.

  6. They are no different than the former greats. If they seem better to you, then it's most likely steroids. That's the dominant theme in sports nowadays, isn't it? No one gets where they are by doing the old-fashioned earning it. They have to cheat.

  7. I think the williams are good.

  8. i think ther're good but nothing to the old greats
