Question:

What do you think of these boys' names? Be brutally honest!?

My husband and I have already decided what our first daughter is going to be called. Now we're trying to come up with some boys' names. Here are a few we've discussed recently. Since some are mine and some are his, I know they may seem like vastly different styles, but I'd appreciate your honest feedback on the names:

Franklin

Miles

Marlowe

Frederick

Diego

Kenneth

Julius

Ewan

Arthur

Jeremy

Edward

Tavish

Thanks!

(Oh, and if it helps, the last name is similar to Grey.)

  11. very much love franklin and ewan ...they're both cool sounding....

frederick is just eccentric as you can make different nicknames from it : fred, eric, derick, ric, red...and that's awesome

kenneth and jeremy is just too commom...

i hate julius and marlowe, those names just sound pompous...

    and why tavish????

  12. Well, I would spell Miles with a Y (in order to keep it from getting confused with the word, plus I've only ever known Myleses, not Mileses.) So Myles is one I like.

I also like Kenneth and Arthur.

My favorite is Jeremy.  I will always like this name.  I know it's common, but I can't help it.  I just like it.

    Good luck!

  13. The only thing I would like would be Jeremy Edward.

    jeremy okay

  15. I like Jeremy, Edward, Miles and Frederick.  Another name that I like that isn't on the list that is different but not weird is Dane.

  16. I like: Franklin, Julius, and Kenneth.

  17. Franklin-Could get teased

Miles-Very cute though more suits an older child (which he will obviously grow into)

    Marlowe-I don't like it myself

    Frederick-Not in his generation

Diego-Love it! Not too popular and very cute

Kenneth-Old school. Only suits older men.

Julius-I'm so sorry but it sounds rather g*y.

Ewan-Quite nice, though doesn't suit Grey

Arthur-Quite a posh name, not my thing

Jeremy-I have never liked this name, I think it sounds kind of dorky

Edward-Too old, not for his generation

Tavish-Never heard this name before, I quite like it myself, sounds good with Grey

  18. Anything that is traditional and not overused is great. From your list, I like: Franklin, Miles, Frederick, Arthur, and Edward.

  19. Franklin- don't like it.

    Miles- this is good.

    Marlowe- don't like it

Frederick- I don't like the nickname Fred.

Diego- Reminds me of Go Diego Go. And San Diego. A whales v****a.

    Kenneth- Okay I guess.

Julius- Don't like it. love Julian though.

Ewan- sounds like someone who is saying Evan weirdly.

Arthur-reminds me of the aardvark thing.

Jeremy- good name. I like it.

Edward- reminds me of edward from twilight. and the nickname ed reminds me of a 50 yr old bald guy.

    Tavish- sounds like lavish.

  20. Franklin - very cute, not sure about Frank as a nickname though, that turns me off the name.

Miles - I like Miles, but it makes me think of a

Marlowe - VERY cute, love it, my fave on your list.

Frederick - adorable, Freddie is a very cute nickname while he's little, then he can decide if he wants to be Fred or not.

Diego - Reminds me of "Go Diego Go", The show on nick jr featuring Dora the explorer's cousin.

Kenneth - Don't like it at all. It's a horrible old name that doesnt need to be re-visited

Julius - Not inlove with it, I do like Julian though.

Arthur - I like Archie better.

Jeremy - Don't like it at all sorry.

  21. I'm naming my first son Optimus Prime

  22. Hi Emmy Jo! It's very interesting to finally see your taste in baby names because I've seen your responses before and found them very helpful.

Wow, I like a lot of these names.

Franklin - I love Franklin itself, but the name Frank just seems too heavy for a kid. Franky is more of a girls' name to me. So I don't really like the nickname options... but I like Franklin.

Edward, Arthur, Frederick and Kenneth - these are definitely old-fashioned. I've seen a lot of people taking girls' names back to the early 20th century, but not so much with boys' names. My favorites of the bunch are Kenneth and Frederick.  Kenneth by association, and Frederick because it reminds me of the "cool name" Dominic but it has better nickname potential with Fred or Freddie.

Marlowe, Tavish - I grouped these together because they're both really out there lol. Both have nice sounds. My only qualm is that the nickname for Marlowe would be Mari ... which is definitely a girls' name. Not that Marlowe necessarily needs a nickname, it's already two syllables. Either way I don't think Tavish goes as well with Grey as Marlowe does.

Diego - I really love the name Diego! It has a great sound to me. But I think a lot of people would question its validity on a 100% Caucasian person.

Miles, Ewan, Jeremy, Julius - These are my favorites... I think any one of them would be great! Julius and Miles are the coolest, Jeremy is most classic/common, Ewan is most unheard of. Actually, I'm surprised that Ewan isn't most popular. I kind of hope that you use it because it isn't even in the top 1000 since 1880 lol! Oh, and Jeremy can always be twisted into "germy" if you're concerned about teasing.

Good luck with selecting the perfect name!! Or more like good luck with everything after you've selected the name... the name is probably the easiest and funnest part lol.

ETA: Have you thought about spelling Ewan like Euan? It seems to be the main spelling - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Euan

  23. miles and jeremy i also like eric

  24. Franklin- I don't really care for. Its more of a surname, and doesn't sound pleasant to the ear.

Miles- I quite like it. I picture a layed back counrty boy.

Marlowe- I dislike. I know a girl named this.

    Frederick- Dislike. Outdated and ugly.

Julius- Sounds a little too feminine.

    Ewan- Unpleasant sounding.

Arthur- I really dislike. It reminds me of a braniac.

Jeremy- Reminds me of a girraffe.

Edward- Cute! by far your best name. Eddie is a cute nickname.

    Tavish- Not a fan of.

  25. I like Jeremy Kenneth and Miles

  26. Oooh, brutally honest is something I do well, lol

Franklin - Nope, reminds me of one of the American presidents and seems a bit old fashioned

Miles - I really, really dislike this name

Marlowe - Seems a bit odd, but could work as a middle name

    Frederick - Too old fashioned

Diego - LOVE IT!!! One of my absolute favourites!

    Kenneth - Too old fashioned

Julius - Don't like this, but LOVE Julian!

Ewan - Really dont' like this name

    Arthur - Too old fashioned

Jeremy - This name isn't bad, not bad at all

Edward - Not a fan, too old fashioned

    Good luck anyway...

Some names you may like that are my favourites are:

Blake, Braedon, Colton, Dakota, Dante, Denver, Elliot, Ethan, Gabriel, Hamish, Hunter, Jacob, Jonah, Kieran, Liam, Malakai, Noah, Patrick, Sebastian and Tyler

    x

  30. Miles,Marlowe,Frederick,Diego,Kenneth,Ju... and Tavish should all be scrapped. That leaves Franklin,Arthur,Jeremy and
