If I have a boy, I was thinking of calling him Aidan Mahlon Donovan and for a girl, Mackenzie Claire Donovan. My baby will be 100% Irish so I wanted to select something that would reflect his/her heritage. Thoughts?

    I love the Irish name

    Mairead for a girl

    Its gorgeous

    Your choices are great though

    xx

  5. Very unique! Aidan is more common than ever buuut its not as common as tyler, austin, john. I like them alot!

  6. I take it you're Irish American? From what I know, Irish people in Ireland would never name their child after a surname. Mackenzie would be laughed at.

As for Aiden, it is way too popular, there will be 5 other Aidens in his class.

I love Irish names, you should really honor your heritage with a proper name.

    Siobhan

    Sinead

    Roisin

    Niamh

    Kiera

    Finn

    Kieran

    Killian

  19. Both names are very nice, i especially love the name if you have a boy! =D

  20. I really hate the name Mackenzie. Overall they are nice though.

  21. MacKenzie is not used as a first name in Ireland. I don't think it's even that common a surname. There are lots of pretty Irish names around so if you really want something Irish, I suggest you look around.

If you look at the top baby names from 2006, the most popular Irish girls names from that list are

    Aoife (eefah),

    Ciara (keera),

    Caoimhe (kweeva),

    Niamh (nee-uv),

    Aisling (ashling),

    Saoirse (seesha),

    áine (awnya),

    Clodagh (cloe-da).

The most popular Irish boys were

    Seán (shaun),

    Cian (key-in),

    Oisín (usheen),

    Eoin (owen),

    Cillian (killian)

    Liam

    Ciarán (keerawn)

    Cathal (coh-hull)

    Fionn (f-yun)

In terms of names you would be able to pronounce, you might want to look at anglicisations of names. I'll suggest you a few of those too along with some easier Irish names:

    Boys:

    Kieran

    Brian

    Declan

    Rory

    Conor

    Kevin

    Ronan

    Aiden is good too

    Girls:

    Maeve

    Ashling

    Molly

    Kiera

    I hope these help :)
