I have been collaborating with a couple of friends across the country, recording and sending. What do you think of our recordings?

What could improve our sound? Do we sound like we're ripping off any other artists?

I only had the chance to listen to Penny, for some reason it was slow to load and also the other songs seemed not to load.

To me, it sounds like you might have an OK song there, but the recording sounded drenched in reverb. I'd back off on the effects and concentrate on the song arrangement. You should probably figure out a way to get the vocals out front so that we can understand the lyrics.
