Scientists are saying that there is this invisible force which permeates the entire world, and that it could potentially be harnessed with a special device that could actually influence human thought and perception.
It's the mid-eighteen hundreds, and the wild theory is called electromagnetism.
Of course, though no human ever witnessed the birth of electromagnetism, and while no scientist at this time can prove electrons exist, they insist electrons are real. Naysayers scoff at the scientists, and tell them it's just a wild "theory", until one day in 1888, Hertz invents the radio.
120 years later (2008), scientists captured electrons on video.
But hey, it's "just a theory."
