Question:

What do you think of this dress? Suggestions?

This is the dress I'm wearing for our wedding. It took a long time for me to pick it out and I stared at it online for months before I ever got a chance to try it on. I love the color combination and the style of the dress, which is very simplistic. I'm not for beads and sequence, etc.

I will be getting rid of the organza flowers and the taffeta leaves in the back. But my mum (who is fixing my dress) says I need something to put into place over it. The train is detachable and she says the gap where it attaches in the back needs a large brooch over it. Any other suggestions than a brooch if I can't find one I like? Or where to look for a brooch to match the dress?

Here's what it looks like one me, ignore my lifeguard tan lines. *wince* Also, the strapless bra I have on stops mid-waist rather than by my hips, so my midriff looks wrinkly.

  1. you look great. with your hair done up and stuff.

    good luck

  2. It looks flawless!

  3. the dress is very beautiful

  4. I think your wedding day should be the happiest day of your life. If YOU think you look good and YOU like the dress, that is the one you should choose.

  5. The dress is beautiful.  I could never wear a dress with that sillouhette, but you wear it well.  Here are some ideas.

I loooove this brooch. I don't know if it's what you're looking for, but maybe it will give some ideas.  Will that tan ribbon thing still be on the dress or will you be removing that as well?  Are you going with silver or gold accents?

The dress really is beautiful, but since it's simple (in an elegant way of course) you should really play up your hair and jewelry.

These are beautiful and would look great with a pearl necklace. I thik you should totally wear drops or, if you insist on something that doesn't hang down...go with a larger earring that covers more area. I like these a lot.

This is nice, without the netting of course

With your dark hair, I would wear it up in a sleek up-do to coordinate with the sleek look of the dress.  That gives you so many options for headpieces, too!

Good luck to you! I'd love to know what you go with.

  6. Maybe something like this.  It is sort of simple but cute.  http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?ref...

You can also go to http://etsy.com and check out all the jewelry sellers there.

  7. I don't know if this would be your style or not, but it would be really easy to have a small, formed bow made in the same colour/material as the detachable train.  Then just have little, clear snaps to pop it on to the back once the train is off for the night.  A fabric bow will also be a lot lighter than a broach, so you won't need to worry about it falling off while you move around/dance.

    Good Luck!

  8. You look nice! Congratualtions.

I dont like the dress personally, but it looks GREAT on you.

But maybe you can get allterations just for that PERFECT fit.

  9. You look fabulous in that gown, your figure is amazing! From my understanding you want to keep the train but not the flowers and leaves right? How about trying a bow? That's a very simple alternative and it's very feminine & classy.

    Congrats and Happy Marriage!!

  10. that dress is soooooooo beautiful, and all the dresses look wonderful on you :)

  11. Honestly, I think you could find better. I'm not saying this to be mean. You *could* wear it and still look beautiful...

It doesn't look bad, but I think you could find something more flattering. It seems like you're going for a sleek, elegant look, but I'd have to say that dress doesn't really pull that look off.

Actually, you have very nice shoulders and I could see you in a sleek halter gown....haha I just looked through your pics and there are ones of you in halter gowns! Much better and more figure flattering!! Makes the strapless one look dumpy!  I especially like the non-lace one with the piping, you look relaxed and happy in it, although it would need to be altered to fit you better.

  12. Have you bought it? I'm not trying to put down your choice or anything but to me it just doesn't look right. To be perfectly honest I think you could find a dress that would better suit your body. That model is quite a bit taller than you. I...I don't know what it is.

I'm sorry if it's not what you want to hear but you asked what I thought.

  13. its too plain

  14. It's very cute! It could be a little tighter. It seems to be a bit big. It's very simple and almost innocent looking. I'm not one to have a whole bunch of c**p all over my wedding dress! I think it looks good on you! ^__^ Congratz!

  15. Wow your gorgeous...and the dress is amazing...i think its a good ouc

  16. Very, very nice. I love the simplicity. Congratulations!

  17. You look lovely in the dress.  Try it on with the undergarments you are going to wear with it before you buy, though.  I want something simple, too.  Here are a few brooches to get you started:  http://jacksonjewels.com/Rhinestone_Jewe...

  18. This dress is absolutely STUNNING! also for your husband to be 6'5 that definetly makes you look tall

  19. Second question first about the earrings

If you are wearing your hair up use drops if not wear studs, drops will get lost in your hair if you wear your hair down.

The dress looks great on you and I agree with Mum it does need something at the back when you take off the train.

Might I suggest a large-ish flower, bow or maybe a small bustle made of the train fabric, or if you are wearing pearls may be a large circle of pearls sewn to the pleat.

  20. i think it is gerogous! and as long as your happy why else should it matter?! but yea i love it!

  21. The dress is GORGEOUS and you look stunning!! Congratulations!! He's not gonna let you wear that dress for long if you know what I mean hehe =)

  22. I like it and think it happens to look good on you. I think in choosing what to do is going to be hard.  Until I saw that you posted no bows, I was going to tell you that you should try an ivory or white one but never mind.

Oh and why are you getting rid of the organza flowers and the taffeta leaves in the back?

Anyway good luck and hope you find something nice.

  23. I love that dress.  You will need some pretty high heels to go with it I think and some pearls.

  24. i think it looks really good u should wear dangling earrings!

  25. how cheap

  26. Just gorgeous! It looks really beautiful on you. As for putting something in place of the flowers, a brooch is the wrong way to go; you'll be sitting on a big sharp hunk of metal all night! lol Instead, go to a craft or fabric store and look for a lace applique like this: http://www.classacttutu.com/images/8453-...

Have your mom sew it onto the dress just along the top right above where the train attaches, so it's like a flap. Whe the train is on, it will cover the gap and when the train is removed it will just be a lace embellishment. I've done this on a few wedding dresses when i worked in a bridal shop, especially with dresses that had those ginormous 80s butt bows on the back. You could also attach the applique to the train itself, and use small hooks (like bra hooks) to secure it to the dress when the train is attached. Make tiny loops with clear thread for the hooks to attach to so they're invisible when the train is taken off.

You should DEFINITELY wear a dramatic headpiece with your dress! My dress is also very simple (no beading, no lace), and everyone I showed it to said it was too plain when they saw it. But I loved it and when they saw it with the lace edge cathedral length veil, they suddenly "got" it. :) I'm also making a headband. My sister gave me an antique rhinestone necklace she found at a flea market, but my neckline is too high in the front to wear it, so i'm covering a headband with champagne satin and sewing the necklace to it. I'll wear really long sparkly earrings and gloves too.

Pick earrings with a small drop if you're wearing pearls. That way, you get the pretty "swing" when you move your head, without feeling like you have tether balls dangling from your head.

Have you thought about gloves? They look amazing with strapless dresses. Something in an elbow or opera length would look very elegant.

    Good luck and congrats!

  27. that dress looks great on you to tell you the truth

  28. You look so cute in the wedding dress! Wow, your husband must be happy! And the dress itself is so nice and elegant! Just google and type in stuff like where to find a brooch and stuff like that. =]

  29. there is nothing too exciting about any of those dresses, but i dont know you, so it may fit your personality. not to imply that you are boring. just that your style is more sophisticated and classic when compared to what i would choose. from looking at those pictures i would say that you have established your style as being somewhat safe, classy, and modest. if that is what you are going for then you have succeeded! congrats on the wedding. it doesnt matter what you wear, as long as how you feel.

  30. the dress is beautiful and you look wonderful in it!
