What do you think of this gelding for sale? I was hoping to purchase it as a hunter/jumper project horse.

Sorry, I don't have any still pictures.

4yr TB gelding, off the track. 16.1 hands (the youtube is a mistake, hes only 16.1)

Please judge his movements as a hunter/jumper prospect. He is being ridden by an 11 yr old girl.

Also, I would be able to purchase him for much cheaper than what is posted on youtube.

Of course all of this is IF he vets clean, which the owner has assured me he will.

Any constructive comments/observations are most welcome! Thank you!

  1. awesome!

    his trot is really good.

  2. He's nice... but the people who own him seem very inexperienced and irrational regarding horse ownership.

The 11 year old appears to be riding in side reins? That is very dangerous. They are flapping around too...

I donno, this horse would probably need a lot of training to prep him for the hunter/jumper ring.

Any conformation pictures would be helpful in judging his topline.

His canter is lacking in the drive of power from behind, but he's young and still needs to build muscle.

  3. He is really pretty i say go for it

  4. I couldnt see how much they are asking for him would you mind telling us? i think he is very pretty and as far as i can tell has pretty good confirmation, in ex races you need to watch out for bowed tendons ect becuase they are started befor they have finsihed growing.

He has the looks to go a long way with a little bit of training from you, the fact that they put an 11year old on indecates to me he is very  sound unless the parents are irrisponsible.

I dont know what the "rules" of buying are where you live but i would be asking for a 2 week trial or at least a week to see if you and the horse fit together, he has lovley sweeping movement and once you get him working from underneath him self i think you have a sure winner on your hands.

he seems to me as though he has great potential.

That is my opinion im in australia and over here for a horse like that without seeing him my self would pay around 1000-1500 if he was trained further you would be looking at BIG money.

Hope i helped and good luck

  5. his lope looks alittle sloppy, but he seems fine to me :]]

  6. He seems fine to me!! I have a TB/QH that's a retired race horse and she's great! Hope you enjoy him as much as I have enjoyed mine!

  7. I think he's very cute, and not a bad mover. He's not really using his hind end much, but still, he's not bad.

Things that bother me? Theres only one shot that even comes close to being a "confo" pic, and I don't like it much. And that video makes me think theres something they don't want you to see - its all glossy special effects and very little horse. I want to see a horse walk, trot & canter in both directions, with transitions, plus whatever else he can do - he's started over fences and on lead changes? Show me!

The little kid? Shes pretty good. Plus she makes him look kid-safe, and bigger than he really is. The side reins are odd, and not doing anything, other than explain why he has a "frame" but not much impulsion.

Of course she has to sell him quick! I hate when sellers say that, its meant to pressure you into a quick decision.

But overall, I like him. If he jumps ok, and passes a thorough vet check - do not skip the x-rays!- I think he's well worth the money. Just remember - buyer beware!

  8. His hind quarters look strong which will definitely help him get over jumps. His canter is very forward, smooth and collected as is his trot. $3500 would have been a good price for a young horse that has all of these features but cheaper is also a big plus! A just bought a 6yr TB mare who has just about the same amount of training and energy as he did and she is comin' along wonderfully as a jumper. He seems like a great deal to me!

    Good Luck!!!
