  1. Hmm..I don't know. I guess it would depend. I don't think people necessarily do it intentionally.

  2. i kinda agree with bigmoses. i'm from Oklahoma and we "Oklahomans" tend to have a very recognizable accent. I moved away when I was 17 (US Navy). About 10 years later I moved back and now other Oklahomans ask me where I'm from. I don't think people change their speech on purpose. it just kinda happens.

  3. its like this if u move to a different region people talk different and it wont be long and u will pickup little bits of there words accents  u are what u eat so to speak u sound a little jealous

  4. It's just one of those things I guess. When I started Uni i was suddenly around a lot of Americans. Now I start every other sentence with 'So...'. And one of my American friends has started saying "Fair enough" all the time. Which is one of my annoying habits.

I also noticed that when I watch TV I sometimes  make the same faces as the people on TV.

It probably goes back to when you're a baby. You pick up emotional cues from people and start to copy them.

  5. I know what you mean. I don't like it. It can be annoying, and people should stick to their own styles and vocabularies. It is good to learn from others, but picking up habits is a different story. Good question by the way.

  6. yes it happens even people's accents can change when around people who have a different accent.it can be just something new or it can be an annoying bad habit.my gf is from iowa and some people n her family have a very odd goober accent with a certain cadence to their speech.i certainly hope that it doesn't infect any of my friends !

  7. I think sometimes, for impressionable people, they unconsciously want to "fit in" with a certain person or group, and therefore adopt mannerisms or speech like the people they wish to emulate.  Sometimes this is done knowingly, but I think most people do it unconsciously.
