  1. Vincent,

She has to be pretty smart to get into medical school.  Moreover, multiple choice questions were invented by the US Army to 'help' candidates who were less able.  It is only affecting her as similar words and phrases are harder to negotiate than proving an original answer, in the mind of a true dyslexic.

I hope that this has helped you to understand.

  2. There is something about multiple choice questions that suits some and doesn't suit others. I have an intense hatred of short answer questions; I like essays and multiple choice. There is something to be said for offering students a variety of different examination types because educational establishments are testing for knowledge and not the ability to do exams. However, if you had an exam where, say, students could choose any three papers from five, you'd greatly increase the workload on the examiners.

I think this case raises valid questions that are very hard for anyone not heavily involved in education or educational psychology to answer.

  3. If that's what she wants...give everyone else the question...

"What is the capital of Madagascar??

    A-Parambaribo, B-Antananarivo, C-Asunción D-Banjul

Give her the question without the choices.

    Would she be happy then?

    Thumb-down...NO???...why not?

Tim Haveron Jones only believes what he reads in the Guardian so you can ignore his rantings...it's a pertinent question.

Shamblin (good answer)...yes, Tim would probably give her your choice and then rave about how standards of education have risen under the Labour government.

  4. she managed to get in to med school

hundreds of others would have loved the chance

    !

  5. Mr. MacKenzie is a very confused man:

'The stress she's under is simply battling with these tests, she doesn't want to take legal action but she's been left with little choice.'

I thought the problem was she had too many choices!

Still in the age of ‘equality’ where everybody has to succeed  let's try to remove that stress:

"What is the capital of Madagascar??

    A- Antananarivo, B-Antananarivo, C- Antananarivo,D- Antananarivo

    There, that’s better!

  6. I hope she manages ok with writing prescriptions when she qualifies!

  7. In my mind the only people here who are ignorant are (a) the Daily Mail journalist (no surprises there) and (b) the person who asked this question.

It never ceases to amaze me that Yahoo! Answers (which ought to be a fantastic platform for sharing knowledge and generally furthering the development of mankind) can be hijacked by small-minded halfwits.

  8. The point is that because she's dyslexic it's hard to pick out an answer from several similar ones. It's ridiculous that exams at that level even have multiple choice questions.

Oh and Tim you missed "Rolyn dal yma o hyd!" off your list of ignorant people. He seems to think that Labour are still left wing.
