Diderot was taking the view of a "Libertin", in that the Monarchy and Religion were limiting factors upon Man's Freedom.

It may have been true in the France of his lifetime, but his country is now a Republic, with no State Religion, so it is not valid today.

Likewise anywhere else, as there are few absolute monarchs in purely Christian countries.

Except for Saudi Arabia, where you would have to change "priest" into Imam.
