I'm asking this in the poetry section because, frankly, you guys are smarter and more honest than the people in the wedding section. The basic story of our wedding: he's a space engineer, I'm a law student. His dad's a pastor, my family's Jewish, I'm Christian, he's Chinese. So, pretty unconventional. We're each other's first love, we've been dating for 6 years and things just get better with time. We had to spend a year apart last year to study, and it was really difficult. He sent me this song during that year, and it became very meaningful to us. Now he wants me to walk down the aisle with it playing.
I like the song (in fact, it still gives me goosebumps when I think how much we missed each other), but I worry that people might get the wrong idea from some of the lyrics. I've heard all that stuff about it being our day and doing whatever we like, but we both have a strong sense of our reliance on and gratefulness to the community, and we're throwing a party for THEM, not us. So how do we do this? If you were a guest, would the lyrics make you think that we're depressive or unfaithful? Would you even notice the lyrics? What if we were to replace the dodgy lines with something else, and get someone to perform it live? If so, how could we alter the lines?

The lyrics: 'Only Alive' by Jars of Clay
I'm a fair-weather friend
I'm a colourless view
But I'm willing to make a deal
If you think you can make
Some faith here inside
I'll drive off and marry you
I'm only alive with you
I can't get by and I won't get through
So put me in the river, let me say 'I do'
I'm only alive with you
You're a sight for sore eyes
And a new-born cry
In a year where there are so few
If you throw me a line
I'll show you in time
I'm falling in love with you
I'm only alive with you...
Though my heart has been torn
By the loves I have worn
And I'm tempted by them ever still
I tremble inside
When you walk in the room
You hold my affections at will
I'm only alive with you...
