I don't find it very persuasive, because it is making its point with sound bites for which we don't know the context.  

Whether it is unfair, I don't know how to judge; this kind of thing is commonplace in political advertisements.  I understand why it is (in hopes of making an easy convert, or strengthening the position of somebody already on your side).  But I still don't like it.

Honestly I would prefer to hear the merits of their preferred candidate along with their criticism of their opposition.
