What do you think of when you hear the term Christian?

Good afternoon, I am working with an "emerging church" in Ohio and we are working to find out what people feel and think about religious buzz words. If you do not mind answering could you please give me three adjectives that you think of when you hear someone say the term Christian. If you do not mind you could let me know what experience or thinking makes you feel the way you do. Please do not hold punches I would like honest feedback.

misrepresentation: witnessed people proclaim to be Christian yet doing the complete opposite of what they should. (judging, spewing hate, etc)

used: used to spread hate and for personal gain

misunderstood:  so many people calling themselves Christian sometimes people think they already know what your about but really have no clue.

"Emerging" is pretty much heresy and rejection of the truth.

Jesus is Truth.  The Bible is 100% true and is the final and only authority on all matters.

Jesus is God and is the only way to heaven.

If you can't agree with those statements, then you're not a Christian.

The Gospel of Jesus Christ is this: The truth is that the only way to be saved and to get into heaven and avoid being sent to eternal h**l is by believing in faith alone that Jesus, who is God, died for our sins on the cross and rose from the dead (1 Corinthians 15:1-4). Believe this and you are saved!

Please pray now: "Jesus, please forgive me of my sins. I believe that You died on the cross for my sins and You rose from the dead. Thank You for eternal life!" You will be in heaven with Him forever when you die. :)

I can't do that in just three adjectives.  When I think of Christians I think of two very different kinds of people.

The majority of Christians are good, caring people who try to act on the teachings of Jesus of Nazareth.  They view church services as an opportunity to learn about their faith and to become closer to the Christian God.  They avoid judging other people, but try to see their God in everyone.

However, I also can't help thinking of the terrible minority who pay lip service to Christianity and then go around putting people down for "not being saved."  Those kinds of people go to church every week, not because they want to get closer to their God, but because they're expected to, and it makes them more popular to be "good Christians" who go to church every Sunday.

Unfortunately the first thing that comes to mind are the people in the first church I attended during my conversion. I say unfortunately because I now without a shadow of a doubt that most christens-people who are supposed to have given their lives to christ are baby christians those on milk 'destroyers'- my first word. But thanks be to God and a Godly husband here I am three years later more of a christian woman I could have ever thought possible. The vally was horrible and the climb long but I am here and long for that summit. So now I only think when I here the word christian is "Christ"- Christ Jesus- My Savior the one I follow and will all the days of my life. With His merciful grace one day I will see God.  Next I think of all the people who despise christians because of their non-belief so I would have to say my next word would be "atheist"        

God and Christ cover and be the head of your church always- First.
