My brother inlaw has a rebel flag on his truck, and I think the majority of americans associate this as a representation that he is a KKK type of person, he says I should educate myself.....what do you think of when you see the rebel flag?

  1. I see it as Southern Pride. I also see it as a representation of my ancestors and the flag that they once represented. Only people who have not educated themselves on it's history think of it as raciest. Blacks just want to have something to ***** about is the only reason it's an issue. If a flag bothers you that much i would suggest moving to another state or country. Political correctness is a bunch of bullshit.

  2. i don't think that the person is in the KKK that's for sure, not unless i knew for a fact they were, but the flag would have nothing to do with that.

i have a rebel flag tattoo on my arm does that make me a member of the KKK? i am far less racist than most people in the Civil Rights movement. i don't judge people on their race i don't like people based on their own actions. The Reverend Al Sharpton is more racist that i could ever hope or want to be.

  3. Consider the German soldier during World War II.  He was fighting to defend his homeland and his family, just as the southerner was during the Civil War.   His flag, however, was the n**i swastika, which replaced the national flag (black-red-yellow).  While he has nothing to be ashamed of with honorable service, he'd never think of hoisting the n**i banner to show his patriotism, heritage, or whatever.   It's actually illegal besides.  Personally, I see a display of the Confederate battle flag as a sign of immaturity, about the same as pants drooping off hips with lots of underwear showing.  Sort of a puerile "F___ You" when there's insufficient intelligence to make your point with coherent words.

  4. i have negative thoughts of a bad part of our nations past.  I am glad the southern states have removed the rebel parts of their flags.  that part of our nations history was wrong and i am glad we have gotten over it

  5. When I fly my Yankee stuff or USC stuff I see hate around these KSU or KC Royals fans but, this is different......

As a black man, when I see a rebel flag I look at the person flying it. If that person is a racist a*****e, then they didn't help the cause of 'oh it's southern heritage'. h**l, at the lake yesterday out here in Kansas, I was surrounded by dozens of them. I was the only black person and nobody said a d**n thing to me. They were trying to get their tans and I already had mine lol.

They just must remember, that battle flag was carried by a group of soldiers were not just trying to secede from the Union, but preserve a way a life which included slavery. I respect the fighting man, but not the politics and I don't need to hear I need know my 'history'.

If I 'flew' some Black Panther or Malcolm X By any means necessary stuff out in Kansas and tried the same logic and arguments, the folks here would not play that. I would be a radical in this town and scare the c**p out of them. Imagine gang colors and I tried the "Oh it's my heritage from Compton, CA, know YOUR history!"

Now, as a student of history:

1: I do know the America flag was flown on slave ships in international waters till 1828.

2:the KKK flies it too. (And so did my next door neighbor in N.C. all 30X50 ft of it for 2 1/2 years. Didn't bother me, I just dated his daughter lol)

3: All the patches I wear or have worn (82nd ABN, 101st ABN, 1st ID, 1st Armored DIV) I couldn't even join or be a part of before 1947.

4: Who cares and gives a *** anymore because most of the 'rebels' who flaunt their stuff just for attention and couldn't name for Civil War battles or the history of their beloved symbol yet I can.

  6. Ignorance, prejudice, and a deliberately obtuse disregard toward how that symbol offends others.

  7. Unfortunately, there are many ignorant people who fly the flag out of hate.  As for me, it's all about my heritage, not hate.

  8. I see ignorance...sorry, I think your bro in law should educate himself

  9. Texas and Mississippi come to mind... I don't know why..

  10. Honestly, I think redneck. The south will not rise again.

  11. I see it as a sign of Racism. If people really wanted to fly it for "Southern Pride", they would be flying the Confederate Flag...not the Confederate Battle Flag, which is what the stars and bars actually are. The confederate battle flag is historically used as a symbol of racism and people who continue to use it are only perpetuating those beliefs.

  12. Southerners.  But then I don't like to make assumptions about what a person is like with out more evidence.

  13. I think of southern pride.  The south has a rich history.  I don't see KKK in it at all.  I guess since I grew up outside Detroit and saw so much racism from every race.

  14. It is a part of history, what does this have to do with the military. Only uninformed people equate it with the KKK, they did use it but the KKK did not create the flag.

  15. To some southerners, it represents pride in the South. To others, it is a way to show Blacks that they hate them. They only rebelled because Abe Lincoln became president, and they were scared that he would have common sense and end slavery and Jim Crowe laws. To my family (which is black) we see it as disrespect to our ancestors who were enslaved for 300 years. and I hate racists

  16. I see racism, misguided beliefs, and a general lack of patriotism.
