Question:

What do you think of women in the clergy?

Women are now ordained in the Episcopal Church. The reason they were barred dates back to ancient Jewish tradition which barred those, among others, who care for the sick from serving. Since it was women who cared for the sick they were often barred. All that has long since changed.

While I understand the concerns of people who do not wish to change this, I feel, on balance, the barring of 50 percent of the population from serving is the overriding issue. I therefore support allowing women to serve.

  1. Well I find organized religion ridicules, that being said.

How can a group of women demand equality, when it comes to a cult?

Nothing in it makes sense in the first place, they should follow the rules or start their own occult.

  2. The only reason women are barred from it in some denominations is because their texts say so. I was under the impression that the broader ideals of freedom and tolerance would override those bits.

This is one of the reasons I'm an atheist.

  3. A woman's place is wherever the h**l she wants to be!

  4. y church has no issues with female clergy, and despite interpretations of the Epistles, neither did the early church.  It was later, and reflecting an overwhelming influence from Paul that women fell into disfavour in positions of leadership.  I think that was wrong.

It is all very well to say that men and women have different roles in general, but nowhere in the New testament does it say that women cannot be clergy.

  5. Who knows, maybe Paul wasn't inspired by the Holy Spirit and all that stuff in the Bible is just wrong.  I note a lot of people in here are atheists just so that they don't have to be bothered by all these little ways the world we live in deviates from God's plan for us.  Maybe there is no God and maybe there is no plan.  Who knows.

  6. I think they are great, my minister is a woman and my mother in law is a retired minister.

  7. I support it too. I personally am not too comfortable talking to some man in a black cloak who has taken a vow of chastity about my personal history and my womanly issues and trenchantly feel that we need women authority figures. Half the population consist of women, if not more in fact. I want to see women leading the church as well as men..Bring it on

  8. With all the crappy clergy that are out there, I think we need to start looking for better ones, no matter the gender :)

  9. I do not support women in the Clergy.  "Men love your wives as Jesus loves his Church"  Men and women are equal but very different roles.

  10. I have a problem with anyone "allowing" a woman to do anything, what year is this???

Women can do anything a man can do, most of the time they do it much better!

  11. Women should have just as much right to lead delusional hobby groups as men do.

  12. I'm not religious so it really has nothing to do with me.  However, | tend to be influenced by writers who I admire, and the late Alice Thomas Ellis, whom I admired very much, was vehemently opposed to the ordination of women.  Her contempt for the whole idea of female priests was so withering that I find I tend to regard the idea with scorn myself.

I also think that religion has really got nothing to do with political correctness.  I mean, I really don't think it matters if 50% of the population is barred from serving, if the Bible says they shouldn't serve.
