And they had to go to bed at night because there was nothing on TV to watch? Yes, this is how it once was. There weren't any cell phones either.

  1. Actually did physical things. Crazy huh?

  2. We called each other from a land line or wrote letters and sent it..."Western Union!"  Or pony express depending how far back you go.

TV was just as good/bad as today you found what you liked or you found something else to do-nothing fancy we just adapt to what's available.

As far as video... The movie theaters are still there but a little more expensive.

And lastly AT&T owned all telephones and made sure you had one everywhere.

Look around you're not so far away from the past yet.

  3. Well, they usually had lots and lots of kids in those days...

  4. wow, really mind boggling stuff... mmm let me think

    mmmmm....

    still thinking...

    *scratches head*

    makes me wonder

    *gets a glass of water*

    still no results

let me go out and take a walk and see if i come up with something. Mmmmmm.

    EDIT

All right I'm back! and I got it! Maybe they actually spent time with people, talking face to face with them. Maybe they read a book, went out more, had more hobbies, wrote letters, engaged in more sports and so on.

Wow, that must be it! I am a genius!

  5. Maybe people spoke to each other ( in person!).

    these days that's a rarity.

  6. We watched television (three networks) and listened to radio and records. We had telephones, so we talked on them.  We read  newspapers more often, though I think people overestimate the amount of reading that people did thirty years ago. I remember that my parents were more active in various church, social, and union organizations, which would take up a few nights a month.

  7. I think they did a lot of star gazing and/or book reading. Some might of played chess or other board games. Some might of been forced to communicate with each other.

  8. We had a lot of parties....for everyone in the family on their birthdays, we celebrated holidays, we had picnics and family reunions, we went out at night to see shooting stars and comets.

Dad liked taking a lot of pictures and reading National Geographic magazine. Mother got ladies magazines, took a hat and dressmaking course and goumet cooking classes.

We kids played a lot outdoors with each other and neighbor kids.
