  1. two points to point out:

everything in this life worth having is hard work.

you get what you pay for.

  2. LOL. No I think they should be more expensive! Not just because I sell and breed. But if the price of the horse was higher it would make it harder for any Joe-Blow to run out and purchase a horse without any knowledge of how to properly care or feed one, then that horse end up in a horrific situation such as being starved, ridden to early(granted some people do manage to live with themselves after mounting their yearling filly whom they paid over $1,000 for), and neglected or abused.

Perhaps if the horses were more expensive it would make it harder for back yard breeders to get their hands on stallions and mares. YES, I know you can go to any auction barn and purchase either one for well under $500, but in my own fantasy world(the one I'm in after a couple of beers) everyone would have to vaccinate and geld and get of their *** and feed and water their horse.

  3. i think board should be cheaper

  4. Not really, they are large animals.

It would be good if they were cheaper. But they are not like a dog or cat. take alot more responsibility. If everyone could afford them then you would find alot of abandoned horses due to people not wanting to put in the hard work.

  5. The better quality/trained the more the horse is going to cost. Bloodlines also play a big part in pricing too. The horse is worth it though I rekon but they could be a little cheaper because the stuff you have to buy with the horse is pretty pricey too.

  6. From a breeders prospective...

There is a saying for those who raise horses.  "If you want to make a million dollars raising raising horses, you need to spend a million."

Horses are expensive because to get a nice horse on the ground is expensive.  Before you even breed, you need to have your mare cultured and vaccinated.  Then there are stud fees.  After you pay that hefty stud fee for a nice stallion, if you are doing AI, there are vet exams and ultrasounds before you even get her bred.  If you do live cover, you need to get the mare to the stallion. After breeding, more vet exams... Day 16, Day 35 and vaccinations in months 5, 7 and 9.  While you wait for your foal, sleepless nights on foalwatch and perhaps even a day job to return to in your caffeine driven stupor.  Foal arrives and more vet exams to make sure the mare doesn't retain her placenta and foal is okay.  God forbid mare or foal have a problem during pregnancy or after foaling... 35 days of medication for one of our mares ran over $1500 and that was JUST medication, not the vet bill!

We spend the next couple of years feeding that baby and working with them so they learn to lead, stand for the farrier, go into a trailer and become a good equine citizen.  Then sometimes we need to hire a trainer...

If done right, it takes $1000s of dollars to bring a happy healthy well bred foal to the age where he can be sold as even a green mount.

Think about the breeder who brought your favorite horse in to the world and have mercy folks... Someone probably put a lot of effort into him or her.  It can be a tough, sometimes heartbreaking job and it can be drain on our resources as well!  :)

  7. umm well that all depends on the horse itself...I think some should be cheaper but in general.....no.

  8. it is not right to sell a 100 dollar horse for 100000 dollars but they are worth some bit of money but there are some that arnt worth 100000 but they are deffly worth at least 1000 no matter what no they should not be cheaper

  9. No, horses are worth the investment...if you don't have enough money for the horse, how are you gonna afford the tack and the board and the vet bills, farrier, feed, etc. etc. etc......

  10. Yeah I do especially since it costs so much to keep them. Hay, saddles, blankets, brushes, food, and everything else!! But they are so worth it!!

  11. I think they should be cheaper if they are not as good a horse but i dont agree that the better horses should be cheaper as well cause then everyone would just buy the better horses cause they would be the same price as the not as good ones

  12. Bella is right, they are big animals but, i wish they were cheaper!
