  1. the problem is that everything is centred around the car. Logically if we were able to get from A to B quickly, effectively and cheaply then we would reconsider having a car, but it would take a great deal of effort and time.

For example, if a developer is building new houses, he will go it well away from the city centre where land is cheaper. The same is true for large superstores.

The only thing that could remove congestion is the internet. If we bought more stuff online and got it delivered and worked from home more and were able to get rid of unnecessary travel then traffic would go down.

At the moment, cars are still competitive compared to the alternatives so until things get really bad then people will still drive.

  2. Here where I live, almost everyone works in another county MANY miles from home. Using the transit system means long waits and transfers to several different bus lines. In other words, it takes 3 or 4 hours to get to work, as opposed maybe 30-40 minutes driving.

THEN, there is the problem of stinking drunks, bums, prostitutes and other undesirables sitting next to you all the way.

Personally, I'll suffer with traffic in my car.

  3. Its a result of public mis-adjustment. No one wants to give up some comfort to take a socially beneficial cause & traffic can't be get rid of, because its just the prgress of the world which is speeding up & these things are little "side effects" which will most certainly keep with us. Only infrastructure can be improved, if more!

  4. Public system will go better
